What Marker Is Used On Pucks For Autographs?
Hey, quick question when you get dark objects such as hockey pucks signed what marker do you use. I heard of deco paint pens in silver or gold are used. Are they in fine point so they don't spurt everywhere making an ugly autograph and could someone post a link to the product please.
Thanks,

Funny story.
I worked with Gordie Howe once and at the end of the day he was signing for people. The first person had a regular silver sharpie and handed that to him to use to sign their puck. He took it and threw it, and pulled out a silver fine point paint pen. Told everyone that "this" is what you want to use on pucks. That sharpies fade over time.
So everyone walked away that day with an autograph from Mr. Hockey in silver paint pen whether they liked it or not!

Silver sharpies are complete crap. I will not get anything signed with them. If I have a photo that is dark background where a blue sharpie won't show up, I use the finepoint paint pen. Particularly on older hof'ers who take their time with their auto. It looks really, really good. (see my most recent one below). You can't go wrong with the paint...just make sure it dries for a LONG time. Don't rush it.

For a puck I'd def go with a fine tip paint pen...you guys are right, for pucks, sharpies are awful.
But don't slam Sharpies! i love Sharpies! lol For normal looking 8x10's and bats...sharpies are the way to go. ;)

During my last trip to Montreal, I ''tried'' to use a silver shaprie. It works very good whan I was at home, but at Bell Center... Just like there was a lack of ink

The pen I used on the Bower photo was this one:

It says "marker" but it is actually a fine tip silver paint pen. It is awesome on pucks and on dark photos. I have used this for 10+ years and never had a problem. If I am getting a puck signed and they have a different type of paint pen, I make them use this one. It's never let me down.
Here is a link to another photo I used this on. http://s920.photobucket.com/albums/a...t=DSC02541.jpg
I took the picture with a flash through glass, so it doesn't quite do it justice, but you get the idea. The silver paint just pops out on a dark photo. When I had Lance Parrish sign this, Jack Morris had already signed. He grabbed the pen and said "these things make me really nervous". But it turned out great. As long as you let them dry, they are great on dark photos.
Incidentally, I wasn't dumping on sharpies in general...just the silver ones. The blue ones are great.Last edited by borisplante; 08-05-2010 at 06:21 PM.
