So I'm a little late on this topic.

I went to college in Boston, so having spent the better part of 3 years there, I know my way around.

Definitely go to the Aquarium. Science Center is decent. Take a Trolley Tour. Duck Boat tours are okay too, but you'll immediately label yourself as a tourist by getting on one.

Eat in a Chinatown restaurant or two or three, but do it during the day. Don't go east of Washington Street at night between Downtown Crossing and New England Medical Center. Trust me on this one.

Visit the Common and the Public Garden, again during the day. I know at least 5 people who were mugged there at night. Take a Fenway Tour even if you hate the Red Sox. The bars on Lansdowne are alright if you want some guy screaming "RED SAAAAAWWWWWWWWWKS!" to puke all over your shoes. The ones on Causeway Street near North Station and TD Banknorth Garden are better.

Go To Quincy Market for a couple meals. When it comes to food, if they don't have it, you don't want it.

Check out Downtown Crossing, especially Filene's Basement. Visit the Starbucks on School Street. I used to work there.

Go into Cambridge. Spend some time at Harvard Square. T.T. The Bear's and The Middle East near Central Square are good for seeing some live shows. My band played The Middle East Upstairs a couple times back when I was there, fun times. The better shows are Downstairs-- Local H, New Bomb Turks, Eve 6, and a bunch of other semi-well-known acts have played there on tour. Aerosmith got their start there. Godsmack probably played there when they were starting. Probably Boston and Staind too.

North End. Best Italian food ever. I lived on Hanover Street in the Summer of 2004. Aside from feuding with one of my roommates for most of the summer, it was great and I'd definitely do it again.

Walk the Freedom Trail. Wear good walking shoes and take your camera. It's about 3 miles total, ending with the Bunker Hill Monument (the 300-step climb to the top is worth it). Along the way, you'll see Old North Church, Paul Revere's House, the Old State House, Old South Meeting House, Faneuil Hall, King's Chapel, Granary Burying Ground, the first Public School, old City Hall, Park Street Church, and the Common. Definitely something a history buff has to do at least once in their life.

So there's a little advice for anyone going there in the future.
