BOO Upper Deck CS!
Let me know if my annoyance is justified or if I'm overreacting.
I pulled a nice Michael Turner 2009 SP Authentic By the Letter AUTOGRAPHED LETTER PATCH numbered out of three. I was happy, but the card had a nice-sized dent on the back corner, so I sent it in to Upper Deck. In the past, UD Customer Service has treated me fairly, but this time around, I'm not very happy.
I saw the 3/3 Turner (the same 2009 SP Authentic card, but a different serial-number, of course - mine was #'d 2/3)go for $80-something dollars on eBay during late-spring. It's not priced due to scarcity, so I know not the book value, but Beckett lists the Turner card numbered out of 21 at $50 BV, so who knows what the /3 would book for? They sent me, in return:
-A Matt Ryan 2009 Philadelphia Signatures #PS-MR, which isn't listed in Beckett. If we assume Ryan to be an unlisted star, the card books for $20.
-A dinged Jonathan Stewart 2009 UD Black Quad/Auto #1PQJS #'d 23/75, which isn't listed in Beckett, either. A common quad from this set #'d /50 books for a mere $30 (and the Stewart they sent - which has a ding on the back corner - is numbered out of 75, so it's a good bet to assume it books under $30).
Unhappy, I e-mailed them.
Upper Deck responded quickly, stating, "Our records indicate that your received a Matt Ryan auto and a Jonathon Stewart auto. How much value do you feel you are still missing?"
I responded with the above on 7-23, feeling I was in the right. I didn't receive a response, so I resent the e-mail (on 8-3), and on 8-4 received the following response:
"Dear Valued Customer,
I sent your email to a supervisor here at Upper Deck, I am still waiting for a response. As soon as I receive one I will let you know. I am sorry for any inconvenience this delay has caused. I hope you have a great day!
Sincerely,
Upper Deck Customer Service"
Still no response. I know some of you despise UD Customer Service. I'm not at that point yet, but I thought I'd make a post to get your thoughts. Thanks!I'm always looking to trade cards for original Nintendo (NES) games. Always looking for 86-87 Fleer basketball - even commons - the more, the better :) Also, when sending cards out, please make certain the cards are well-protected and well-packaged.

mmmm i personally would have been happy with the Ryan and Stewart(if it were not damaged) and the CS doesn't sound that bad. Just keep e-mailing and calling.

I think u got fair value for the BTL, but like avjp said without the stewart being damaged. Since that isn't the case, I would recommend trying to get something for the stewart that is damaged. Those BTL cards aren't as rare as the numbering would have u believe. The numbering is per letter so there is actually 21 of them made. The card that u talked about booking at $50 is the one you pulled, they just have 3 of each letter. So you got both of those cards for a $50 card. Pretty fair IMO if the stewart wasn't damaged.

I think you got a fair shake as I think you would be able to move the Ryan if you so chose alot faster than the turner. With that being said I would still try and get a replacement for the damaged Stewart, although the Ryan doesn't book I would say it is worth at least 30 dollars as that is what the chris johnson books at.P.S keep at them upperdeck may be slow to respond but in the end their customer service usually gets it right.Good luck and take care Steve

Thanks for the comments/info. I'm assuming they'll have me send the Stewart back in for a simular-value card which isn't damaged, but we'll see.

ryan at 20? I doubt that seriously. If the stewart was in good shape I'd say you made out like a bandit.

Moose - Um... look in the Beckett Plus for yourself. Unlisted stars book for $20 and he's not listed. Chris Johnson only books for $30.

Book value? Book value??? Seriously?
Those UD Philly sigs (all on card) sell for good coin. QBs, RBs, and Jared Allen anyway. Plus you got the Stewart, and can likely get that replaced. I think you made out pretty well. I'd rather have the Ryan/Stewart myself anyway.
