2010 Theme Week #16- Best Base RC
Welcome to Theme Weeks 2010! In week #16, we are looking for the coolest rookie card that is not an auto, patch or GU (player doesn't matter). Also, Bowman cards are NOT considered rookie cards. This week runs from today (8/15) until next Saturday (8/21) at 11:59 PM EST. All cards must be scanned or have their picture taken with a piece of paper that includes your SCF member name, date, and theme week number (This week is #16). Once a card has been entered into this week's theme, that card can't be entered into any other 2010 Theme Week, so choose wisely!
Voting will take place from the following Monday (8/23) and will last until 11:59 PM EST the following Sunday (8/29).
Each week, cards will have different "grading" standards as to what the winning card should most possess. They will be posted along with the voting thread. Remember, what matters more is the card itself, and NOT THE PLAYER!
Only one card may be entered per person. If a card is deemed to have no relation to the theme, you will not be entered in the week's voting. Each weekly winner will win 75cc, with 40cc to the second place finisher. In addition, the winner gains 1 point in the standings for the final prize. The second place finisher gets .5 point. Let's see those entries!
Have fun!Last edited by gmoney168; 08-15-2010 at 04:09 PM.

Yes, the description is the old one. Base rookie, is that any rookie card from any year from any set as long its not an insert or special card? What about a situation like 1952 Topps Mantle where people call it his rookie card but in actuality its not, the 1951 Bowman is his true rookie card?

The holy grail of the baseball card collecting hobby, this is generally the most wanted card with the average collector. Other cards may be rarer or worth more, but everybody wants this one. I could care less about condition on this one, the thing is to just own one. The 1952 Topps Hi Number Mickey Mantle, Topps finest hour. In fact, no matter who is on one of these cards, its great to have an example of the High Numbered Rare Series of Topps first major issue.

Why aren't Bowmans considered rookie cards?

They are prospect cards and the newer ones don't have the "official" MLB rookie logo.
