why do players return cards unsigned?
i just got my first ttm response back today(returning to ttm colelcting after a long absence) and i was excited to get my first response back, when i opened the envelope, the card was there but it was unsigned! why do players return cards unsigned? you would think if they went through the trouble of sealing up and returning the card they would just sign it! any thoughts please?

Depends on the player. Typically, if the cards are returned unsigned, there was the expectation on the part of the signer of a donation or fee to be included with the request.
Who was the signer that didn't sign your items?

I had this happen earlier this year with Garrett Anderson. I think that he simply forgot to sign my card, but who knows.
Different players simply have different reasons, and only the wandering mind can speculate...

I agree with tigsfan. We will never know.
One of the many possible reasons is they have someone else sorting their mail & sending stuff back. I know I got an unsigned card back from Baron Davis postmarked from LA, and the Clippers were in the middle of a long road trip the date of the postmark.

derrel was signing good up till the end of 09 from his home addy... and then he started to send stuff back unsigned... so he might be done signing or taking a break from it... but wiki says he has been working for the dodgers since 09 so you could try him there he might sign that way.....

It depends. If a guy with a ton of them may forget to sign your card -- it can happen. Or maybe he requires a donation or something, or maybe he's not singing for a period and someone else is opening the mail and sending the items back. I don't know about you guys, but I'd rather get my item back unsigned than never hear anything back.

The easy explanation is that perhaps the person just does not want to sign but does not want to keep your stuff hanging around. I've had two envelopes come back with my card unsigned. Former Buckeyes Rickey Dudley and Chris Sanders. Chris Sanders waited 100 days or so to do it. I assume he just wanted me to have my card back and did not want to sign.

Jon Lester did this to me earlier this year. Over the past 2 years I've sent to Barry Larkin twice. Once about 2 years ago and once about a year ago, because i was frustrated at no return. Curiously enough, they both came back on the same day, separate SASEs, both unsigned.
