Kovalchuk Rookie question!
Hey everyone, I was looking to have this Ilya Kovalchuk rookie card graded by BGS. The corners and edges are nice and sharp and the surface seems smooth. But then I looked at the centering and it is clearly not centered. Would this card not receive a high grade or are all of the Topps Heritage rookie cards like this?
Thanks, Dan

I have no idea the value on this card, so I'll simply C&P what I posted about a similar question asked last week...
For a modern-era card, it really isn't worth it unless you want the card preserved at whatever status it is in now and want two little plates on it with some numbers. You've got it well protected in its current holder, presumably it's not going anywhere, so why bother with the expense? There are likely dozens of graded cards out there of this card, you'd be just as well to get one of those than to send in the copy you currently own and risk it getting a poor grade. Honestly, if it were to come back anything less than a 9.0 you'd have wasted your money and probably actually devalued the card.Habs fan and collector! Main PC's: Carey Price, Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, Juraj Slafkovsky, and of course...

Lol thanks?
I just wanted to know if this centering is a problem with the set or just the card. The reason I get rookie cards graded is to raise the value of the card. Obviously it will go down in value if it receives a bad grade. And this card WOULD be worth a lot because it is of a star player.
So my final question to you guys is: Should I take my chances on having it graded???
thanks, Dan

I agree with Rich. Don't grade something like that, it's only worth a few bucks to start with.

I think RGM is referring to my question about my Crosby 05-06 Victory a week or so ago... lol
I wouldn't grade. If this is one of those cards that was of center aside from the rest, it probably isn't worth it.

I just took a closer look at my Crosby, and from comparing it to other Victory rookies I have, my Crosby is off center also... so it would have been pointless.

if your planning on selling it, invest in a one touch magnetic holder and take a nice pic of it. I find i'm drawn to cards pictured in its holder for some reason. something to do with maybe cause it looks like the card is nicely framed and thus more valuable in people's mind.
anyone know what I mean?

This card book just a bit over 10$ so paying to have it graded is not a investement that will bring money over time.
I don't buy many graded card but for older rookie then I prefer to buy a graded card. I paid double value to get a Ken Dryden Rookie graded 8. So if you pay full price a Dryden not graded then this can become a investement to grade it. But a card need to have a certain value to start with otherwise you will never make return if you consider this a investment.
So the answer is no.
