I really hope the deal gets rejected and he gives up and signs a 25 year, 250 million dollar deal in Russia.

Yeah I'm so sick of this fiasco. I really hope the next time we have to see him is in the Olympics when they're in his country.

Let's bring this one back up. The NHL has about 35 minutes to decide & announce whether it has approved the latest Kovalchuk deal.
15 years, $100M is the reported contract.

I honestly think the NHL should accept the new contract. New Jersey is just trying to put a competitive team together and to do that you need to lower the cap hit for superstar players. If they signed Kovalchuk to a 5 year deal for $45 million dollars it would be a $9 cap hit. A 10 year at $75 million would be a cap hit of $7.5 million a year. A 15 year deal at $100 million is a $6.66 million cap hit. I think though in the next CBA they should have it that if a player retires before completing a contract half the amount of the cap hit should count against the cap.
