Hands down what it is about
A little while back a trader on this site was beginning a Tie Domi PC and since they were just starting it they were asking for pretty much anything. I looked at their Bucket and saw a card I could really use for my own NYI PC and knew I had some Domi stuff in my enforcer PC and also in card count boxes. Went through what I had and low and behold adding up values I wasn't even close to the card I was looking at.
At a point between trying to find something else and continuing trade talks I ran into some very frustrating offers/trade talks and it took the hobby loving wind right out of the sails...pretty much pouted and contemplated dropping this passion for trading all-together. After a bit of a soul-searching break I decided with a few traders, who I had basically left hanging in talks, I sent pms to them and just sent out what they wanted, wasn't fair to them or their fault. All of them were understanding and helped re-new my interest and showed that a few bad eggs dosn't mean kill all the chickens in the coop.
I just returned home from holidays and had a few bubble mailers to open and as I went through them and was confirming trades noticed I had an extra one...did I forget to send something out. Panic set in as I opened it and this is what I found along with a hand-written note thanking me for the Domi cards.

scla6986 aka John Ranger epitomizes what card collecting is truly all about and I would like to thank him on here for once again proving that those who love this sport/hobby truly make the small things in life (there are much more important things than hockey cards) enjoyable and able to put a smile on a face. Last night when I opened it, and this Sunday morning as I write this, I am still smiling and hope that I too can or have done the same for another collector or even non-collector in some way. Cheers to you John.
As a side note I would like to say that as Journeyman Plumber we are not known for grammar or being able to write more than one sentance so please hold all laughter...

What a classy move by the man! Glad you got things figured out and back on track. Nice card also!
The hobby shouldn't be about Beckett values and money, it should be about personal values, and how much the card(s) me to someone. This goes to show, even though the book values weren't anywhere close, personal value is what matters. Everyone should go by this, money isn't everything.

Its definately a good tool to base trades off of though, if for instance you're swapping tradebait. But I do agree with you. There have been a couple of guys on the board who have been very kind in that regard to me when trading, so I try to do the same when we're talking about a card that they really need, or that I dont value as much for my own collection.

John is one of several excellent traders on this site. I had the same experience of a completely unexpected (and nice) bonus card showing up in a trade last week, from a guy with whom I've nothing but positive transactions. The cards are nice, but it's the people that make the difference.
And as someone who had English as a major during undergrad, I would say that your grammar skills are far better than my plumbing abilities.
