Card Shops
Hi Guys,
I'm new to the forum's so i'm not sure if this would be the right spot for the question.
I am getting back into the hobby and just moved to western canada. The closest big city I am near is Calgary. Anyone know of good LCS's in that area?
Cheers

i live in Calgary..try these ones...if you only have time for one..I would pick Maple Leaf Sports..owner is decent to deal with and selection is better than the other 2...don't forget about www.bossacardshows.com - Edmonton Show Oct 2/3rd 2010.
http://www.mapleleafsports.ca/ - in the NW, singles and boxes
Eastridge Hobbies - in SW Calgary , Riverbend...new boxes ONLY!
Dick's Collectibles - in SE Calgary, Deer Valley Mall singles and boxes

I agree, Maple Leaf Sportscards is awesome, the selection of boxes is huge, the single cards are awesome, the prices are actually good, and the owner is a pretty nice guy to deal with.
Eastridge is good, not much else to say, but I can absolutely NOT recommend Dick's too you. It's a very small shop located in a very small mall, and features a very small selection of hockey, heavily overpriced singles, and a very unmotivated, slightly irritating owner.
The Right Stuff at 916-16 Ave. has a decent selection of boxes, again charging higher than ordinary money for their boxes, because the owner and workers do not really know to much about hockey cards.
Another in Calgary I can recommend is Collector's Books and Cards at 1-510 77 Ave. SW. The guy is stacked with cards, and because he does not really organize his inventory on a regular basis, some really good deals can be had. When I was there in May, I purchased a 2007-08 Halak SPGU Spectrum rookie parallel #/25 for only $12, because the owner forgot to reprice the item. The base #/999 version books and sells for higher than what I got the #/25 one for! The selection is large there, but boxes do run higher than most places.
Also, if you can get to Red Deer, then check out Bill Sr.'s sports cards. It is the only hobby shop left there and it is run by Bill Ranford's dad...seriously, and he has one of the maddest selections of boxes I have ever seen. Only weakness is that his prices are rather high, but if you are looking for practically unfindable boxes from any era, you will be pleasantly surprised. Not to mention, he has some good stories to share about his Stanley Cup winning son.
And if you come up to Edmonton, you've got Wayne's...IMO, the single greatest shop out there. You've also got West's. My two complaints with West's are that their boxes are slightly on the overpriced side, and there is almost no room to walk around in their shop. If there's three or more shoppers in there, good luck being able to move around to look at things.
There are also three card shops in West Edmonton Mall, a small card shop at Capilano Mall, and some other smaller card shops scattered around town.
Hopefully this helps you out at least a little bit.Last edited by IrbeFan4Life; 08-30-2010 at 04:06 PM.
