    My Favourite Card-CONTEST ENTRY

    By Andrew Farn aka MasonRaymond0320

On a warm night in June 2010, mr.ozzie (member on sportscardforum.com), and I met in the live chat (the live chat is basically the same as instant message) just to catch up on news, discuss trades, share what we had gotten in the mailbox that past week, etc. My new personal collection player was Matt Duchene. I had fell in love with his play because he can skate fast, score the goals, and set other players up. On that particular night, I told him that my new PC player was Duchene, and he told me that he would try to win a few Duchene cards off of ebay for me. I thanked him, told him not to get me anything high end, and that I would try to get a few Phil Kessel autographs for his personal collection (because Kessel is one of his PC players). I was able to trade for a Phil Kessel Sign of the Times autograph for him. I didn’t have that much money, so I wasn’t able to get anything else for him.

I remember June 24 2010, as though it was yesterday. It was a bright, sunny and beautiful day, and I had been on sportscardforum all morning (my morning routine all summer long). I was eagerly waiting for the mailman's arrival. He finally came at about 12:30 in the afternoon, so I rushed downstairs, and opened up the door to see if he had left any mail for me. He did! Sticking out of the mailbox, was quite a big, and bulky package. At first I was confused at who had sent it, but smiled to myself when I saw the return address. It was from mr.ozzie, member on sportscardforum! He had told me that he would generously win me three cards from ebay a few weeks ago, and then send them to me. I knew that one card was a Ryan Kesler Be a player autograph, and that another card was a Sidney Crosby MVP rookie graded 10 (a card that I had bought from him) but had no idea what the other two cards were. I ran upstairs to the computer desk, anxious to see what was in the package. I ripped the package open...and my mouth just dropped, when I saw what cards he had sent. Inside the package were eight cards, instead of the three that he had said he was going to send to me. What he had got me were: Mason Raymond SP Game Used Authentic Rookies, Mason Raymond Be a Player autograph, Mason Raymond Ice Premieres rookie /499, Ryan Kesler Be a Player autograph, Matt Duchene Trilogy rookie, Matt Duchene Fresh Threads, Sidney Crosby MVP rookie graded 10 (which I had paid 10 dollars for), and a Matt Duchene Rookie Exclusives /100!!!
When I saw the Duchene Rookie exclusives /100, my mouth dropped even lower...I was absolutely dumbfounded! I had seen that card on ebay, but hadn't had the money to buy. I really liked the sticker auto on top of the team logo, which kind of reminded me of an ice rink. That was my first Matt Duchene autograph as well, and I was as happy as ever! My new Duchene PC that day had about six cards instead of three, and it was just an awesome, feeling, knowing that I had so many more cards, but it was an even better feeling knowing that I had friends on sportscardforum that actually cared about my collection, and knew how it was like to never have a chance to get one of those wonderful, amazing patch cards, a Sidney Crosby autograph, or a box of SP Game Used. And considering that it was and still is a PC card, I absolutely loved it, and I still do. I remember admiring it about 3 times every hour. Even though it is one of my more expensive cards in my personal collection, the design of the card, and the generosity made by mr.ozzie makes it my best, and my most favourite card in my personal collection to date.

So once again, thank you mr.ozzie for the very generous act of kindness. In my opinion this hobby isn’t necessarily all about the cards, but is about the people that make this hobby so unique and special!
