As it happens, Mrs. M. has a university course that is being done over the course of a couple weeks next winter. Yeah, one of the dates she has class is January 22nd. It's an elective, so we may be able to swap that out for something else, but I don't want to ruin her entire calendar for one night. Cross your fingers for us that we can make this work, otherwise I'm posting a certain link.

Despite tickets going on public sale this past weekend, the weekend before saw a number of season ticket holders offering various tickets on Ebay a week early. I unintentionally stumbled upon one, which triggered an idea and a few phone calls. A friend and I set our limit and flagged our top 3 choices of seats and hoped for the best. In the end, we were able to get very decent seats for the game we wanted and within our budget (we still ended up paying more than twice face value). Since we were buying from a season ticket holder, we also got the nice artistic tickets, rather than the generic kind that ticketmaster produces. They arrived via Xpresspost this morning, and I may or may not have done a victory dance outside on the driveway in plain sight of the postal worker.

Very cool to snag some tix for that game. I've had the pleasure of a Montreal/Toronto match and it's a ton of fun.

Nice work Paul! Totally deserving of a victory dance in front of the postal worker! I did a victory dance too when I got mine but I was home alone hehehe.

I did not get in on the ticket buying action this weekend, but I know anyone going to Montreal for a game, is in for a great time.

I've seen 5 games at the Bell Centre now, and it's always a treat. Montreal / Toronto on a Saturday night is always a blast - even if you cheer for neither of the teams.

    Have fun!

I was actually fortunate enough to attend the Leafs/Habs season opener in Montreal back in October of 1999. I was in my first year at Queen's (University, in Kingston, ON) and we had scheduled a trip to Montreal for the weekend with the guys on our "floor". It occurred to us at the last minute that the season opener was that night, so we ended up going to a ticketmaster outlet the DAY OF the game once we arrived, and were shocked that we could still get tickets for the 3 of us. The only catch was that we couldn't get 3 seats in a row, so we took turns, a period each, sitting in the lone seat a row behind the other pair. It was a great game, with tremendous atmosphere. There was certainly an effort amongst the fans to out-cheer each other. Most of the lower bowl was dominated by Habs fans, and at least 50% of the entire upper bowl had rowdy Leafs fans.

This time will be a bit different. Rather than going last minute with 2 other Leaf fans as an aside to an otherwise semi-crazy-drunken college party, I'll be going this year knowing that I have good centre-ice, 2nd row seats, and I will be accompanied by a friend and lifelong Habs fan who has never seen a game in Montreal before, who is probably more excited than I am. He was born and raised on the east coast, in Windsor, Nova Scotia, and then moved out to Calgary for work when the housing boom started. He's seen many Flames-Habs games in Calgary, but never a Habs game in Montreal. He relocated to Ottawa last February and his focus since doing so (other than performing well at his new job) has been on weekend trips to Toronto to catch-up on seeing his favourite teams live. I was there for his first MLB (Blue Jays) game, but not for a friendly between Celtic and Manchester United (him being a big Man U guy). The Habs are the one big hole on his list, so taking him to his first game on a Saturday night against the Leafs, and before the -30 degree Quebec weather starts, is fantastic.

The only two negatives I can associate with these tickets are the price we paid (not outrageous, but not cheap), and the looming possibility that the Leafs get blown out. That would make for a long, frustrating night for me. At least afterwards, the bars in Montreal are open 'till 3.
