    Meeting 'Captain Canuck'!

    By Andrew Farn aka MasonRaymond0320

Time has just flown by, since Trevor Linden stepped off of the ice surface of GM Place (now Rogers Arena) for the last time. I still get emotional whenever I watch the ending of the April 5th game against Calgary (the Flames beat the Canucks, by pounding them 7-1). I look up to Trevor as a role model. He does everything...from giving donations, visiting sick/ill children, to living life to the fullest! It would definitely be an absolutely awesome experience to meet him one day. Well, I was surfing the Vancouver Canuck message boards one summer night, and came across information for a Trevor Linden autograph signing! I started to get very excited, as this was probably going to be my chance at finally meeting the greatest player in Canuck history!
The signing was scheduled to be held on September 12 2009, at a new CIBC bank grand opening in Surrey, British Columbia. I had bought a t-shirt from the Canucks Team Store (a couple days before the signing), and had a poster for him to autograph as well. I remember the days leading up to the signing. I would stay up at night thinking how fantastic it was to add a few more autographs to the collection, but how awesome it would be to finally meet Trevor. The day finally arrived! I was as excited as heck!! I was finally going to meet ‘Captain Canuck’! I jumped out of bed at about 8:00 in the morning. The signing was supposed to start at 11:00. I got down to the signing about an hour and a half, later. I waited in line for another hour and an a half. At 11:00, Trevor arrived! Everyone clapped and cheered. There was entertainment, so no one ever got bored. A magician performed a few magic tricks, and there were free food, and games. I got a free puck, and a free reusable grocery bag, which I thought were pretty cool items that they were giving away. An hour and a half of standing in line, and I was finally able to meet him! He signed my shirt, and my poster, and added in a free, signed postcard of himself! I was really happy! We exchanged a couple words (I was a little quiet because I was a mixture of excited and anxious). He smiled, and we posed for a picture...I got my stuff all organized, and got set for the long ride home. He was a very nice guy...one of the nicest players that I have ever met! I felt, and still feel very privileged that I got to meet him. Not many people can say that they met Trevor! I remember a few weeks before the signing...he was doing another signing at a Future Shop because it had been the 15th anniversary of the Vancouver Canucks magical 1994 playoff run, and so many people had shown up, that Trevor had to stay a little longer, and many people hadn’t gotten an autograph. I felt very lucky that not a whole lot of people had shown up for the CIBC signing. It was definitely worth the long drive, and the line up.
