    Vanguard / Pacific factory replacement?

Hello guys, i grabbed this card off ebay http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...#ht_500wt_1154

i cant seem to find any info on it. i wasnt in the hobby at the time to remember anything about it. the description is "You are looking at a DOUG GILMOUR 2001-02 Pacific Vanguard Premiere Date parallel. It's an un-numbered Pacific factory replacement version. VERY RARE, only 5 exist! - Card #49."

has anyone got any info on these? or does anyone remember getting any themselves? the card has no serial but it supposed be #'d /5

here a higher quality scan of the card now that it is in hand

Only 5 in existance is sketchy. I'm not sure how the seller would know how many there are.

I can tell you (likely) what it is though.....

The old Pacific company, everything from their vaults went up for sale. Cards like this were produced to replace damaged ones. I have no idea what the normal serial number should have been - but lets say it was # /100. You pull a card #ed 93/100..... but it's damaged. You send it back, Pacific would then pull a card like the one you just bought, stamp it 93/100, and destroy the damaged one.

I think most of their old inventory, stuff like this, went up for sale in large lots - and is slowly being sold off by the people who bought them.

    This is right.

I have a Messier I bought off the Bay that was a card bought from pacifics vault after they closed their doors, it was meant for replacement of damaged cards. My guy claimed it was a 1/1 but it was a good deal and a unique card so I snatched it up.

When this card was for sale in ebay, about a month ago, I did asked for this card and I got this message from seller:

Hi Harri, The dealer I bought it from told me only 5 no serial-numbered sets were made in case Pacific needed replacements for damaged cards. I have never seen any of these before, so I believe him.

Have you seen any of these cards before? :)

    Thanks - Phil

It is 'just odball' so I make a desicion that I won't bid this item, because there is so much different Dougie's odballs around and it so hard (and EXPENSIVE) to get all beckett listed cards. If I remember right, this one ended 0.99$ + shipping.

All the rumours are true. This Gilmour is extremely rare and it is out of 5. Pacific did this with many sets. Easier & cheaper to just produce a few generics than several more sets of ever parallel number.

It's basically a generic card in very low quantities, making it very rare.
