Hockey off limits to separatists
Only in Canada could hockey be a hot political topic. Maybe that's because even politicians know that hockey strikes a chord with almost every Canadian.
With National Hockey League training camps opening this week, the legendary Montreal Canadiens have been criticized for having so few -one, in fact -- French-speaking players.
Of course, one needs to consider the source of this criticism. It comes from the Parti Quebecois, the province's opposition party, which said the Habs have become a promotional tool for Canadian federalism, and a weapon against Quebec separatism.
