Steve Mason Signs 2-Year Extension With Columbus

$2.6M and $3.2M per season, respectively.

Good deal for him given that his sophomore year was not so great. Hopefully he, like another young 'keeper that recently signed a contract, can have a strong bounce-back year.

Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

Did Jaro have numbers such that he's in need of a "bounce-back year"? Unless you're posting from September 2011, I don't follow.

I have a lot more confidence in Price at this point than I do in Mason. At least Price was half-decent last season, despite a lot of people suggesting otherwise.

For starters, the Habs scored just 41 goals in the 25 games he lost. That's 1.64 per game. 14 of his losses were by one goal. If he pulls even half of those out, then we're talking about a goalie who finishes above .500.

His regular-season save percentage (which, to me, is a better indicator of a goaltender's skill than a goals-against average) was .912, which was better than average. He put up a 2.38 goals-against average and .924 save percentage in November and December and still went just 8-8-3 because his teammates couldn't find the back of the net with a telescope. His only bad months were October and February, and February hardly counts because he only started twice.

I know I gave you the gears in an earlier thread, Rich, but I really believe Price is going to be fantastic this season. And I would hardly consider it a bounceback. For all the crap he took last year, it should have been shared with the 20 other guys on the ice who kept coming up one goal short.

Price has always done pretty well, and I think he will do better than people think.

Mason, just doesn't have the team in front of him, but I think he will do well as well, not as good as Price.
