NBA Expands Technical Foul Guidelines This Season
From ESPN.com, NBA referees have been told to call technical fouls for the following actions this season:
• Players making aggressive gestures, such as air punches, anywhere on the court.
• Demonstrative disagreement, such as when a player incredulously raises his hands, or smacks his own arm to demonstrate how he was fouled.
• Running directly at an official to complain about a call.
• Excessive inquiries about a call, even in a civilized tone.
....
"Heat of the moment" reactions, like a defensive player briefly raising his hands to show he had proper position, will be acceptable.

Some of those are a little uncalled for. If a player thinks he was fouled and nothing was called, he should be able to make a gesture indicating he was fouled. Honestly that sometimes makes the refs pay more attention.

The way I read it, that should be OK under the "heat of the moment" exception. The two rules seem to be ambiguous. We'll see.

Too many rules make the game boring. It is the player and team problem when they decide to talk with the offical while the game is still playing.

Whining makes the game painful to watch. I think these rules, coupled with the infractions issued during playoff basketball for excessive technicals, will make the game more enjoyable to watch for the majority of basketball fans. Heck, if the players start acting like grown men again, I might even think about taking my kids to a few games.

So basically these rules were made to go against last years Celtics team, cool by me.

Running directly at an official to complain about a call.
So technically you can WALK to an official to complain about a call?
I don't mind rules about decreasing complaining and players threatening "aggressively" toward each other.
I would like them to allow for harder fouls, bring back the handchecks, and allow players to taunt/trash talk each other though.

handchecks back in the good old days man now every baby foul is called, its ridiculous and unenjoyable sometimes you just have to let them play.

The whining needs to stop. But some of these new rules are lame and is going to take some of the emotion out of the game.

I think some of the aggressive gesturing and outbursts are awful but that is just the passion of the game coming out in players. If this makes the game more enjoyable then fine. I took the survey from NBA.com a few weeks ago and did not agree with most of it. I also agree with allowing harder fouls and handchecks.
