Question about the 96/97 Donruss Rated Rookies Gold Set
Does anyone know if this set exists? The regular set had a silver background with the player in colour but apparently a gold version was also produced. Is this a 1/1 set? My understanding is that the cards are not numbered so I am unsure if it is 1/1.
Any info would be appreciated.

Donruss apparently did not release any back-up information regarding the print run total of the Gold Parallel.
To suggest that they are 1/1's would be a bit presumptuous, as Donruss had never released any 1/1's prior to this printing.
Donruss short printed cards of this vintage when even numbered at or below /500 were always booked at a somewhat high rate at least among star players.
I would think that something in the neighborhood of ser. numbered to /250 would be more in line with Donruss behaviour of the time, however that is all based purely on their past printing behaviour and conjecture.

These are very scarce indeed.
I believe the story was that a few unfinished Rated Rookie sheets were mistakenly put through the machine, which puts the finishing touches, such as the star die-cut, on the Press Proof cards.
There's no way of knowing how many copies there are out there or if there even is a gold version of every player included in the set. Only players I've seen are Alfredsson, Bure, Sykora, Daze, Fichaud and O'Neill.
