Jose Bautista - Steroids?

Gotta throw this out there. I was looking at his stats; the guy never hit more than 16 HRs in a year. This year he's at 52 right now. Does that raise a red flag for anyone else?

His muscle mass hasnt changed..his swing did though, this guy is a big guy though, i'm suprised he never hit for power, but props to the Jays hitting coach, what he did clearly worked

just cuz someone has a good year doesnt mean they used steroids.

I recently had the opportunity to meet George Foster, he had one year that he hit over 50 HRs. I made a remark about players today and steroids, and in a very sarcastic tone of voice he said what are steroids? (implying that he may have used them) So im not saying Mr Bautista is a Juice head, but theres reason to be skeptical.

very true. and thats another reason why roids have ruined parts of the game. when someone deserves high praise for a BREAKTHROUGH season like Bautista, everyone goes STEROIDS!

do i think he has, no. Does he look like he has, no. but that doesnt mean he hasnt. i played baseball in college 4 years and knew some guys that were on them. they are getting much more advanced to better utilize the current muscle mass rather than adding more.

i HOPE he hasnt, would be very disappointing.

100% agree with this. you never know with players these days, but i think/HOPE that he has not

Considering the vast majority of the record holders from the past few decades and a large proportion of hall of famer's from the 50's on up played dirty. lets just enjoy the season he gave us without the roid garbage.

do you think players REALLY give a rats @!@#$ if people think they are bad for taking steroids, what i mean by this is, a player like bautista (using him as an example only, since he was brought up previously) goes out hits 50 home runs only once in their career and then some team gives him a 6 year $180 million contract, he then gets of the juice hits 3 home runs a year, collects his $180 million dollars and then goes lives like a king in the Dominican republic and never has to work a single day in his life again,(while most of us have to work until we are 70 years old for a measly pension) its like winning the lottery, so i ask again do you think players REALLY care what the fans think of them? there are some players who come from poverty, so steroids is a quick fix to become EXTREMELY Wealthy, very quick. all they have to do is have one GREAT season and they are rewarded. i guess another question is, would you go on steroids for one year, hit 50 home runs and collect $180 million dollars? i think it would be very hard to find someone that will turn down $180-200 million dollars, if team were throwing it out there. i think steroids are bad, i think players should be banned for life for using steroids(if pete rose can be banned for life for gambling, then steroid users should be banned for life), so i dont condone steroids at all, they are a drug and shouldnt be used at all by anyone especially those role models that we look up to or use to look up too(canseco, sosa, mcgwire, etc) just throwing out there food for thought.

I hear what you're saying. Breakthrough year, yes. Hitting coach, yes. But come on. He hit FOURTY more HR's this year than he's ever hit before! Bonds hit 40+ HRs several times, and then he hits 72 and everyone knows something's up. This year Bautista has hit 4 TIMES as many HRs as his career best, that'd be like Bonds hitting 160 HRs. I just don't buy that changing your mechanics at age 27 can produce those results.

To Bam's point, many of these guys come from near poverty. They want to help their families, and they want to help themselves. In their situation, I'd take the gamble. If you get caught you can just apologize and no one cares, especially if you're coming out of obscurity. But if you DON'T get caught, the payoff is well worth the gamble.
