    Free Agent ????

    Hi all, when a player signs as a free agent what does that really mean?? kinda of lost on this one

    a free agent is a player who is no longer under contract with any particular team, so they are free to sign with whomever they want

    There are two types of free agents; restricted and unrestricted.

    A restricted free agent can be signed by another team, but the team he plays for can match that offer to keep the player.

    Here's an example of a restricted free agent scenario... Magic keep Redick for $19M, 3 years The Bulls made the original offer, but the Magic decided to match the offer in order to keep Redick. Teams have either 7 or 10 days (not sure which, but I know it's one of those) to match the offer. If the Magic did not match the offer, then J.J. Redick would be playing for the Bulls this season.
