Diet question?
Hi, I am on a high fiber diet. I am trying to consume between 25-35 grams of fiber a day. I am reading a diet book, "The Belly Off Diet" It says eating a lot of protein is important. My question is how much protein should I be consuming a day? I am about 6' around 215 lbs male. What is more important fiber or protein, or are they both equally important?
Thanks

Before my weight loss surgery, I went on the South Beach Diet which basically consists of high protein low/zero carb diet. From April to August I lost 65 lbs and was still able to eat great meals like Chicken, Steak, Eggs ect. Downfall of it is no breads an potatoes which were my weakness. I also cut out diet pop which retains water on you like crazy. In all I was able to get down from 420lbs to 300 in the last year. My opinion is stay away from carbs and eat alot of protein and the weight should come off. Good luck!!

im actually trying to consume alot of fiber myself because i need to drop the 10 pounds that i have gained within the past 8 months. i havent really helped myself up until now.
are u having regular bowels? what are u eating? reason why i am going to protein is i was filling myself with alot of junk that was clogging up my colon. stopped GNC 2 weeks ago and picked up a Colon CLeanse that is just pure fiber. u take it 3 times a day in ur drink and ur good to go. got me going again and its really helped me out alot more.
hit the protein if ur look to muscle up a bit or for a nice recovery. i go back and forth but its personal preference and what ur looking to accomplish.

They are both equally important for your general health - although from personal experience, I don't think either affects weight loss directly if that's what you're wondering about in particular (portion sizes, especially caloric load, are the things to watch in that case).
Fiber relieves constipation, and soluble fiber specifically has been found to have a good effect on people's cholesterol levels. Fiber may also help protect against colon cancer, but studies haven't been conclusive there. The RDA recommends 25-30 grams a day, but I've noticed little difference between consuming 10-20 and 25-30 each day. As long as you're getting at least 10 grams and eating a variety of healthy foods, you should be fine, and your bowel will thank you for it. ;)
Protein is important in muscle maintenance and keeping up your energy levels. The RDA recommends between 50-65 grams a day, but personally, I tend to eat around 80g a day even as a small 5'2" female because I do lots of weightlifting.
In short, I think it would be pretty hard to overdo either fiber or protein. If you're eating a nice mix of nuts, oats, lean meats, and vegetables each day, you're probably getting what you need.

If you are on a diet you have already failed in your quest. Diets do not work, they only exist to make their inventors rich. Think " life changing journey" eat healthy balanced smart meals with moderate activities if you really truly want to lose weight and keep it off.
