Ebay for Dummies

Hi all,

I have bought a few things on eBay, but never sold anything before. I was wondering if you all can help answer some questions about selling.

What is the best way to bring up my feedback rating?
Should I sell lower end cards first to bring it up before trying to sell higher value cards?

What the pros and cons of:

Normal auction vs BIN/BO
1,3, 5 (whatever the options are) days listings
low starting price vs higher starting price

How do I protect myself from scammers?
Take pictures/videos of the packaging?
Only agree to sell to those with high feedback ratings?

Comments on these and anything else is really appreciated.

Selling low end isn't a bad idea.

I'd encourage having a respectable inventory to start, say a good 1,000 cards, although you would be fine with a lot less.

This would help raise final prices as more people would likely pick up more than one card.

I'd be professional, with a nice layout, simple and to the point. Definitely offer scans over digital camera photos. Be fair and charge actual shipping cost.

Have some goals written. Know where you want to go with your efforts. I wouldn't be concerned as much with being "scammed" on the lower end stuff.

A "Buy It Now" could be good and bad. You may get a nice price for waiting for the right person to come along. Be careful if you don't have an eBay store, "Buy It Now" fees add up quickly. On the other hand auctions can be good to draw overall interest, and be careful, as not to give away too many things.

You'll have to learn as you go of course and that's the beauty of it. Anyone can succeed with proper homework and desire.
