Will the Price be Right?
By Karine Hains
In a little less than a week, the 2010-2011 NHL season will kick-off. In hockey mad Montreal, the start of a new season always brings the excitement to new levels. This year however, the Habs faithful are divided. In fact the divide started last year when the Canadiens two young goaltenders battled it out for the role of number one goaltender.
It was a hard fought battle and from early on, it was clear that the organization hoped that Carey Price would step up and live up to his potential as a first round draft pick. Things didn't quite turn out that way though, Jaroslav Halak put up some impressive performances and even stood on his head when necessary to snatch the top spot from Price. Come playoff time, he was THE man. Halak was the starting goaltender for what ended up being the best playoff run the Canadiens made since their Cup winning performance in 1993. In the first two rounds, he was the main reason why the Habs managed to eliminate Crosby's Penguins and Ovechkin's Capitals. His performance was so stellar in fact that the Montreal press was starting to make allusions to a possible Conn Smythe trophy should the Canadiens make it all the way to the final. The fairytale ended in the conference final against the Flyers though and even though Halak didn't win a trophy for his outstanding work, he did win the heart of the Bleu-Blanc-Rouge masses.

Thursday is going to be important for both teams. Habs lose and fans and media are going to be all over Price. Leafs lose and people will want Wilson and Burke's heads on a pike. Too bad I can't watch it.
