Ian Laperriere being advised to retire
RW Ian Laperriere is being advised to retire due to nerve damage in his right eye and post-concussion syndrome, damage incurred when he was hit by shot in Game 5 of the Flyers' first-round playoff series against the Devils last season. The Camden Courier-Post reported that that two doctors that have seen Laperriere should retire, quoting the 36-year-old winger thusly: "When I get the lights going and there is movement around me, it gets worse and worse and I feel like I'm not myself. "That's what scares me, and that's why I can't play. They don't want me to get hit again and I don't want to get hit. If I feel this bad right now, how will I feel on my next hit? If I'm not sharp out there, especially with my game, I'm going to get killed."

I liked Lappy - I was "Upset" when he left the Kings - He is CLEARLY what old time hockey was about in the present game.....I have seen plenty of games where he got hit or cut and where most players would sit in the lockerroom until the game was over - he was out ther minutes after being stitched up....
He is a great guy to talk to - he loved the fans in LA....He was a fan favorite and from what I read, he was one in Philly too....
Sad to lose a guy like Lappy....I hope he recovers from his concussions quickly and able to move on with his life......

Massively liked in Philly. From what I've heard from friends, no-one has become this big with the fans so quickly.
Wears his heart on his sleeve kind of guy. Such a shame.
Get well soon, Lappy.
