Brutal Hit By Hjalmarsson on Jason Pominville Tonight
If you guys haven't heard, Blackhawks Defenseman Nicklas Hjalmarsson blindsided Sabres forward Jason Pominville tonight sending his head smashing into the glass. Pominville stayed down for several minutes before being taken off on a stretcher. Lindy Ruff said in his post-game press conference that Pominville suffered a concussion and a cut of some sort.
What do you guys think? Clean or Dirty? Suspension or no Suspension? I know I have my opinion but I'd like to hear what you guys think first. Here's a video of the hit for those who haven't seen it:
Thanks for posting!

Dirty, scary hit...His head snapping like that is just scary to see. I was at the game and it was just disbelief and silence cause Pommers is like our iron man. He hasnt missed a game in his pro career until the ones hes sure to miss now. I honestly dont think Hjalmarsson is a "dirty" player or that the hit was intended to be dirty but that doesnt change the fact that it was. It was a blindside hit on a defensless player that drove his head into the glass. Pominville didnt even have the puck yet. A dirty hit, with or without ill intent, is a dirty hit. That was definitely a scary moment though cause he didnt move much and it seemed like a long time before they got him off the ice. Glad that the injury only ended up being 8 stitches and a concussion

See watching the reply from the corner view it looks as if Hjalmarsson went to just rub him out(not the sexual way)---> sorry mods if that was to much but ya.... Anyways back to the topic... I don't think he intentinally meant to do that... He went to rub him out to take the puck and don't think Pomminville expected to get hit...
Your welcome Hammerhawks

i think it was a penalty but i don't think it was malicious. the result was rough but it was from the side and he didn't target the head, so in that sense it wasn't dirty.
i believe he got a 5-minute major and ejection and i think if he gets suspended it shouldn't be more than a game or two just because it wasn't a dirty hit in my opinion. dangerous - maybe. horrible result - yes. dirty - i don't think so. i don't see intent to injure there.
hopefully pominville will be ok.

According to an article I just read, it was about 15 minutes before they got him on the stretcher and off the ice.

Honestly the more I watch it, the dirtier it looks to me...
It looks like its going to be harmless until Hjalmarsson sees Pominville is defenseless and decides to drive his shoulder into him. Simply, it was an unnecessary hit and when you drive your shoulder into the back of a players head it isnt going to end well

How is something that you deem "dangerous" that lead to a horrible result and deserves a 5 minute major, game misconduct and possible suspension not dirty? I feel like all those things are perfectly fitting of the title "dirty" whether it was intentional or not

i guess i'm going with intention to classify something as dirty. i would call the hit at worst "careless". dirty is corey perry running goalies.
i didn't see a great view but it looks like he hits him from the side and not at the head. i'll watch again.

he hit him shoulder to shoulder from 3/4. not from behind and not directly on the side. the problem was pominville wasn't looking or ready for a hit which i think is why it looks so bad.
i'm always one to side on the guy who got injured. so in that sense, Hjalmarsson got ejected and will probably get a game or two. but i don't think there was malicious intent. no one can say for sure but he didn't target the head and it wasn't from behind and pominville was close to the boards (not a few feet away which is the most dangerous).
what makes the hit illegal is that it's before the puck gets there which could explain why Pominville didn't brace for the hit. clearly a penalty, but it's not in the same league as some of these head hunters that we've seen in the recent past.
btw, i'd be mad too if it happened to a King.Last edited by RGM81; 10-12-2010 at 02:07 PM. Reason: Mind the language. :)
