Meigray Question
I noticed a thread similar to this, on another website, and thought it was extremely interesting.
Here was/is the question: Has Meigray run its course? Will Meigray even exist, 10 years from now?
Why?
Well, this year, only 10 teams are part of Meigray. A lot of teams have dropped out
Unless I am mistaken.
Theres no more Canuck jerseys, no more Ranger jerseys, no more Tampa Bay jerseys.
Maybe more teams will rejoin next year? I certainly hope so.
Comments, complaints, and opinions appreciated.

Of course they'll always exist.
The company existed before they had any kind of affiliation with the NHL or any of its clubs so why wouldn't they exist if they didn't again?
They can always acquire stuff through private collectors to flip for profit, do consignment sales, make one-time only deals or sign yearly contracts individually with NHL clubs to market various things, the possibilities are limitless what they can do to stay in business.
Just my 11 cents............

Sorry, I should have put it into better wording. I meant...will Meigray still be in buisness, say 10 years from now?
And, I definitely agree with you. If they do get desperate, they could always buy from different collectors, or from NHL clubs.
But I was very curious why are all of these NHL teams dropping out?...do they not think meigray is trustworthy enough..?

It's nothing to do with trust at all it more about the ability to get a broad audience to clamor for the goods. Basic supply and demand.
The teams simply know that nowadays, in the age of mass media (internet, wireless phones, PC's etc), they can market these jerseys well enough themselves without "outsourcing" to MeiGray and losing out on money.
I know for a fact MeiGray had an agreement in place to buy these jerseys as lots at a fixed rate every year, whether a player did good or bad.
So player A cost them $400 every year. Of course they could raise and lower the price at their discretion if player A did well. And because they had that agreement with each club, they could NOT raise the price on MeiGray, and some "scrubs" turned star made a killing for MeiGray.
NHL clubs basically got smart and cut out the middle man so to speak.
Now they sell these through, auction, website or directly in team stores and make their money.
As far MeiGray being around in 10 years, yeah, I think they will be. It might be on a much smaller scale but they'll always have a place in the market.

Yeah, they'll last 10 years, and probably a lot longer.
Barrie has already done a nice job of pointing out the fact that NHL teams walking away from them is for their own benefit. Cut out the middle man, and make more $$$.
But there are only so many jerseys that teams will sell each year. There is always going to be a need for a trusted source in the secondary market. When you think about authentic Game Used jerseys - what's the first company name that pops into your head? MeiGray (I think) for most. That name recognition isn't going to go away.
