Luck sure is changing with Panini!!

Since I got back into this hobby last year, I have opened around 20 boxes or so (including blasters) and for the most part, not had huge luck. I managed to pull a dual patch /35 out of Ultimate at the Nationals this past summer, but that was pretty much it. I have made a ton of trades to get Flyers cards for my PC, so I will continue to break a box here and there.

Which leads me to Panini Certifed. I told myself that this year I would just buy base team sets and singles to get what I need and try to trade off last year's stuff as well. Since I don't collect parallels (would drive me insane to get all of them) or GU (don't fit in binder pages which is what I display my PC in), I figured I'd stay away from busting a box of Certified.

Well there happened to be a card show at the mall this weekend and Friday night I couldn't resist and bought a box of Certified, deciding that it was something different and new...I'll try it. I am glad I did. I picked up all the Flyers base (don't need to buy the team set now) and ended up pulling a Red jersey parallel Matt Duchene Certified Potential /99 and a James Neal emerald patch /5!! By far the best pulls I have ever had. Since I did so well, I went ahead and bought 2 more boxes today at the same card show. The first one I broke today and the other I am going to break with my daughter later this week. Out of today's box I pulled yet another patch, this time a Shirt Off My Back Backstrom/Ovechkin /25!

It's probably just dumb luck, but I am doing way better with Panini than I ever did with Upper Deck, so I'll be sticking with Panini!!

Oh yeah BTW, by friend also bought a box of Certfied and also got a patch, his was a Pronger Mirror Gold /25.

Stay away from Blasters if you want hits, blaster are only good for base and some parallels (like OPC retro cards).

Out of everything I have broken, I would say slightly less than half of them were blasters. Even so, my buddy would always get something good out of a blaster, he pulled a Crosby/MAF/Broduer/Parise 2 on 2 Jersey out of an MVP blaster last year. He also pulled a Tavares Gold Victory RC out of a Series 2 blaster. I never get that lucky!

To be honest, hardly anyone does. Blasters exist merely to provide a means to jettison large quantities of base cards and provide product access to people with less money to spend. UD will throw a bone or two into occasional blasters and retail boxes to keep people interested, but if you're looking for a big hit, hobby is always the way to go.

Yeah I've pretty much figured that out. I doubt I'll get any blasters this year. Even still, my UD hobby boxes were pretty much average or worse as far as hits go.

I had some bad luck when I got back into busting a couple weeks ago... I ordered a box of 09/10 BAP for $100 and my only big hit was a Gustavsson Rookie Jersey card #d out of 250.. Not a bad card by any means but the rest of the selection was weak (Best auto was a dual sig of Bouwmeester/Regehr)... Other than that not much to write home about... I also got 3 packs of 09/10 UD Series 2 and busted nothing to brag about (Free so im not going to complain)... Ordered a box of Panini and my very first box came with a Mirror Red Fabric Signature of Jordan Eberle along with some other good hits.. I then bought 2 packs of UD Series 1 and 3 packs of Panini.. Luck continued (Karlsson young guns in the UD and an Evander Kane Mirror Red jersey card in the Panini along with a couple other good cards).. 2nd Box of Panini came today and I hit another fabric signature (TBD according to Panini its an Aasen card).. Not a big name player but still a rare card to hit (prob worth around $30)... Also hit a Malkin Fabrics of the Game and a few others.. Testing my luck with a box of Artifacts this Friday... I will get more Panini though since it has treated me great so far!

Lets say Panini is great so far! I pulled a Freshman Fabrics Signatures Taylor Hall /499 in my 2 boxes along with a bunch of other very nice cards! Have 2 more boxes incoming and would like to get an 8 box mini case of Certified since I'm doing the set.
