What to Do?
By Karine Hains aka Pheebs888
Us collectors have all been there, you scour the market to find THAT card, you know the one with the best patch you’ve ever seen adorning a card of your personal collection player? And then, you find it! Or you think you did anyhow…the price seems too good to be true…There it is sitting on eBay and hardly anyone has bid on it. The patch is spectacular! Plenty of breaks, plenty of colors and ever so pleasing on the eye. The problem is, the other cards from that set are nowhere near as nice…so is it a one off? Or are you looking at the work of art of a con artist? You can’t really tell so you go ahead, bid and even win.

An excellent read on a very timely topic.
It is beyond unfortunate that nearly anytime we browse eBay and see a "crazy sick patch" our first thought is, "Fake." Not, "Wow! I need that," but "Fake." No player is seemingly exempt from this phenomenon, and the "Why would anybody bother to fake a patch of ...." sentiment just doesn't hold water. It's not just the Blackhawks' superstars, it's not just the best players in the best products, it's not just limited to a select group of elite players.
With the die-hard collector's mentality that they have to have the best patch card of their player, it makes them easily succeptible to wanting to believe that the crazy 4-colour, 10-break completely unique patch is legit. It doesn't matter if they've seen 15 other copies and they're 2-colour, 4-break at best, they still want that crazy card for the show & tell forum. And they will pay accordingly to lock it down. And the Kenny's of the world get to laugh all the way to the bank.
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...
