On This Day in Baseball History... Oct. 31

On this day in baseball history...

Oct. 31, 1931- Burleigh Grimes, the last legal spitballer who eventually became a Hall of Famer, was released by the Cardinals.
Oct. 31, 1953- Commissioner Ford Frick returns from Japan with the Giants and calls baseball there the equivalent of level A minor league baseball.
Oct. 31, 1960- The Giants traded with Milwaukee to acquire Alvin Dark for the next year but so that he could be their manager, not a player.
Oct. 31, 2005- Theo Epstein resigns as Red Sox GM after being offered a three year, $4.5 million extension. He then escapes the media by dressing up in a gorilla suit and walked to his car.
Oct. 31, 2009- The first use of instant replay in the World Series occurred when Alex Rodriguez hit a ball initially ruled to be a double but was later overturned to a home run.

    Like the idea?
