I myself would make a cut. It might decrease the value of the auto but I don't collect for value. I would much rather look at a cut that I designed then a blank index card. You could always make a back and show a picture of how the index card was before it was cut up and then stick the sticker off of the index card to the back of the cut.

I'm kinda in agreement with Bigga. I'm in the process of turning an auto from Dick McGuire into a custom. It's from one of my first custom cards I made and I want to "upgrade" the card.
Reason I asked is I want to add a Dave DeBusschre auto to my Knicks collection. An index is cheaper than a signed certified card or cut auto card so I figured I can turn it into a custom cut.

I gotta quick question for all you cut auto makers
When you make a cut auto do you always make the card horizontal or d you sometimes do vertical. Reason I ask is because I just got an email ttm that I want to make a cut but I don't think a horizontal would work. So I just wanted to know if cuts can be both vertical and horizontal or if they should only be horizontal

I go by the motto - If it looks good, then it is good.
Whatever works. That's the great thing about customs - you can do whatever you want.
I recommend making a photocopy of the autograph and doing some test designs until you find a look that you like.
Here are a couple of my 'vertical' cut autos I have done.

Good luck and be sure to post your designs. Looking forward to seeing them.
