Lake Erie Monsters
The Monsters came away with two victories while playing three games in as many days this past weekend.
The back-to-back-to-back set started with a 6-3 loss to the Manitoba Moose on Friday night. Lake Erie held a 3-1 lead in the second period on goals by Mark Olver, Zach Cohen and Greg Mauldin, but from there the club surrendered five straight goals.
The Monsters got back into the win column on Saturday, topping the Toronto Marlies, 4-1. Julian Talbot had a goal and an assist, while Justin Mercier, Ben Walter and Zach Cohen also scored. Jason Bacashihua needed to make just 17 saves to claim his second victory of the season.
Lake Erie then blanked Manitoba, 2-0, on Sunday. Bacashihua earned his first shutout of the season by stopping 19 shots. The Monsters’ goals came from Joel Chouinard (see sidebar) and Talbot.
Tulsa Oilers
After opening the week with a 4-1 loss to the Colorado Eagles on Tuesday, the Oilers – much like the Monsters – played three games in three days last weekend.
Harrison Reed assisted on Tulsa’s lone goal in Friday’s 2-1 loss to Colorado. The Oilers then wrapped up the week with a pair of losses to Wichita, falling 4-2 on Saturday and 8-0 on Sunday.
