Phaneuf Leaves Game With Cut
I didn't see it as I was watching the Habs float through another shutout loss, but it sounds pretty nasty...

Toronto Maple Leafs captain Dion Phaneuf left Tuesday's 3-2 loss to the Ottawa Senators with a cut to his left leg.
Phaneuf got tied up with Ottawa's Peter Regin at 6:11 of the second period and fell awkwardly to the ice. He needed assistance to get to the team's dressing room.
"He's got a cut on his leg," Leafs coach Ron Wilson said after the game. "It was deep enough that they wanted to take him to the hospital to determine the extent of the injury. That's the last I heard."
Phaneuf is unlikely to play Wednesday when the Leafs visit Washington. His equipment was still hanging in his locker stall after everyone else's had been packed up on Tuesday night.
Also, this was weird:
The 25-year-old has been a lightning rod for criticism early this season, with Leafs GM Brian Burke holding an impromptu press conference during the first intermission of the game to scold fans who booed Phaneuf during a 2-0 loss to the New York Rangers on Saturday night.
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

Guess we will find out if all the people who say the leafs will be better without him are right.
Still haven't made up my mind about him but can say this. HIT THE NET WITH YOU SHOT when you make it back into the lineup

I have a feeling all the Phaneuf haters might get to see how much this team will miss his 25+ mins a night.

Here's what I don't get. Everyone is moaning about how bad Phaneuf has been this year..... but anyone who has ever seen him play should know - he's playing pretty much exactly how he did the two years he spent in Calgary. Exactly the same.
He does two things well. Open-Ice hits, and has a cannon of a shot.
He is not particularily quick on his feet, has never been great in his own end, and doesn't handel the puck very well. Did anyone seriously think that this was going to change??
But this season, IMO, he's looked extra bad - becuase of coaching.
Since he's started there, I haven't been too critical of Wilson. Fact is he's coaching a bad team, and there's only so much he can do. This is still a REALLY bad team, despite that 4-0 start, despite what Brian Burke will try and tell you, and despite what the chearleaders in the media say.
But he's putting Phaneuf in front of the net on the power play? I don't understand. This guy does not have the hands for it. The one time in the game - big shot from the point - when Phaneuf has a skill set to be an effective player, Wilson has taken that away from him.
I get that they lack a big-body up front. Nobody to get dirty in front of the net. But you address that via Free Agency, or a trade. Not by moving your best slap-shot in front of the goalie.
Anyway - best of luck to him. Not an easy injury to come back from. He'll probably be out close till Christmas

Sadly I have to agree. The Leafs are a bad team who can't score.
Every night i watch them I am yelling for them to go to the front of the net. Need to create more garbage goals like Ryan Smith scores. No knock against Smith love the guy and he regularly goes to the net getting his 2 foot goals but age and body wear is catching up to him.
At the start of the season I had and still do have hopes of the Leafs making the 7 or 8 seed for the playoffs.
Goaltending hasn't been an issue.
Hoping that they put Colten Orr in front of the net on the powerplay ( I use the term loosely ) and see what happens
Anyhow i do hope Phaneuff a speedy and complete recovery.
Watch out for Ovy tonight as he loves playing the Leafs

Until he got a hurt, I really wanted to see Colby Armstrong in front of the net on the powerplay. The Leafs are in for a tough stretch with their lack of scoring and having both Phaneuf and Armstrong out of the lineup. Hopefully they can play .500 hockey for the next 4 weeks and not dig themselves a huge hole.
