That's nothing. You should see how long UD has been using Florida Panthers GU since he has been with the Canucks (at least 3 years after still)....lol...

Note: I was pretty surprised to see a 2010-11 Artifacts Phaneuf GU piece (from a Tundra Trios) that appears to have come from a Leafs jersey so quickly....lol..

So only "great" players get to use previous teams jerseys on their cards? Who gets to make the decision on who is worthy and who isn't?

How about Hossa, he has been on 3 teams in the past 4 years. What do you do, throw away all of his Pittsburg and Detroit fabric? If you only produce Hossa cards using Chicago uniform, that could limit the number of Hossa cards produced for a few years.

The other option would be to show him in a Redwings or Penguins uniform on the card depending on the jersey you need to use. That seems even more ridiculous, and I'm sure Chicago collectors would have some beef.

I understand that in an ideal world the jersey/patch swatch would match the picture on the card, but if you consider the cost of a jersey it is a little unreasonable to ask that a card company would just throw away expensive resources. Especially of a guy like Ruutu that does not get a lot of memorabilia cards. Would you buy a new jersey just to produce a few cards?

I saw a cool Robitallie card the other day where he was pictured in an LA uniform, but had a sweet Winged Wheel patch. I almost bought it. It would be a shame to think that jersey got tossed if someone made the decision that Robitaille wan't "great" enough.

I think common sense applies in this situation - if it's a retired player it's very easy to make that work. If they want to use Luc Robitaille Red Wings memorabilia, use a picture of him as a Red Wings player. If they want to use a Luc Robitaille Kings swatch, picture him as a King. Very simple formula for retired players, the great ones or otherwise.

For the current players, if they want to make a card of a player that people are truly going to want, they're going to have to shell out the dollars. That's a fact of life. If they're hurting to the point that they can't call up a team and say, "We need a new jersey for player so-and-so, here's a wire transfer of $800" there's bigger issues ongoing than little details like making sure that the swatch matches the picture. Do you believe in your heart of hearts that any Maple Leafs fan out there is going to want a Mike Komisarek jersey card with a nice big red Habs swatch on it? Or that Bruins fans are happy to see that Michael Ryder jersey cards still have similar Habs pieces? Of course not.

Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

Completely agree. If some of these players retire and become semi-legends, then use every old jersey you've pilfered from them and give collectors a nice variety. But people -- most people, at least -- would probably prefer newer jersey models for modern-day players. As Rich pointed out, this is especially true for those who have played for both sides of a heated rivalry. To some people, it really doesn't matter, and that's cool. But some go in expecting their GU hit to be up-to-date. Not to much to ask, is it?

I'm just glad they aren't putting out Selanne stuff from his days with the Sharks. HATE the Sharks! LOL

    It's just plain unacceptable.

Here is a little of both.

    http://cgi.ebay.com/BLAKE-HEATLEY-Tu...item1c16cc85fa

So the Sharks just got Dany Heatley last season? And they have Sharks stuff of him already?

Then the other player on this card, Rob Blake, who hasn't been in Colorado since, what, 2005-06 season, and they are STILL using Av's stuff? He had a two year stop in LA before San Jose and then 2 years there.

I say if you MUST use the old stuff, at least be team specific with the matching photo otherwise please stop.

It isn't just a UD thing, no one is able to photo match every card.
