Donruss/Leaf False Advertising/Lying

Yesterday Donruss released their big (as in large base set) retail product Donruss Team Heroes. I had seen the sell sheets/product images at DACardWorld and elsewhere and liked how the cards looked and decided that when the cards came out I would put together a set of the autographed parallel. I was even setting aside some dough for the Mattingly Auto they have on the sellsheets. So you can imagine my surprise when I took a look at the checklist for this set on Beckett today and out of the 440 autographed cards that are supposed to exist in this set only 84 do in reality and Mattingly isn't even in there nor any of the other big stars in the base set!

Donruss is blatantly lying to increase sales, take a look at this sell sheet:

The sell sheet clearly states that there is a 440 card autographed parallel set. So many more people are going to buy boxes of this crap thinking they can get a George Brett, or Nolan Ryan auto because they have cards in the main set and think that they have cards in the parallel auto set too. But it's a scam, looking at the Beckett checklist no auto would be more than $5 or $6 on the bay!

So beware of any pictures you see on products (of Donruss/Playoff/Leaf at least) it may be a doctored image and the card may not even exist.

Companies do this all the time. There was a big hoopla when the specs for 2004 Bowman Draft Picks came out to be different than the sell sheets. But they do say that the details have not been finalized on the sell sheet.

Oh yeah I know that it says that in the fine print, but that doesn't mean it's still not misleading. When do sell sheets come out, a couple of months before the product release? There is no way that Donruss believes they will line up autograph deals with the Nolan Ryans, Sosas, Mattinglys, and other stars in the set in the last few months before the product release. Nor will they release unnumbered autographs of these stars, when was the last time you saw an unnumbered autograph of Nolan Ryan? and all of the autograph cards in this set are unnumbered.

Donruss is lying to us and using the disclaimer as an out. They even have the guts to put a picture of a Mattingly auto card on the marketing material, implying that it already exists when it doesn't.

All I'm saying is that Donruss is doing this intentionally and acting like "oh there's only a month left before we release our product and our autograph contracts for 356 players fell through, too bad we already sent out the marketing materials." Which is deceitful.

Yep, if that's the final checklist for autos, then that is some shady crap.

They did this for the 2005 Leaf product too. On the sell sheets they show a Pujols auto parallel, but it and the other star's parallel autos are no where to be found.
