Score misses the net with Parallels

    You would think with all the discussion on parallel saturation in the hockey card market that Panini would have listened. Their first release, Certified, is so disgustingly laden with parallels that it makes player collecting almost impossible. {One Lindros card with 12 short printed parallels?!?}

So, you would think, especially after hearing feedback on Certified theywould have made appropriate changes for the entry level Score brand. 10-11 Score features three parallels of each base card. There is the Glossy card, the French Back card, and the 20th anniversary card.

I have no problem with the French Back and Glossy cards. They are acceptable parallels in my book. My problem is with the base card, and the 20th anniversary card. Why do they have the same card design? The only difference appears to be the silly "20th anniversay" foil stamp on the front of the parallel.

Upper Deck and OPC got it right with their flashback cards. The base card has one design and the retro, or anniversary card, mimics a previous release. That is absolutely cool! Score would have been wise to follow that example. By having the base card designed in the style of the original 1990-91 score release what is left for the special anniversay card? Slap a silly foil embelishment on the card? this lack of imagination makes the foil stamped anniversary card totally irrelevant. It brings nothing to the table except for the foil stamp.

Come on Panini, try a little harder...

Score missed the net with their Parallels all throughout the 90's. They were competing against Donruss/Leaf and their parallels are all SP Numbered, Rare, Beautiful, and like Hen's Teeth to find at times.

Score Rookies from 1990-1998 are also worthless.

The Score Black Ice Foil parallels if you have Gretzky, Yzerman, Roy, or Mario, are the only things worth trading for in the 90's.

i personally don't like Score as a collector...but i agree with the second half of the post...with its extremely low price, you really can't expect them to put forth the level of effort you would out forth for a high end product...I simply don't like them because i don't usually work on set building so I don't bother buying te cards when there is gonna be no return on investment, but i remember when i was younger and on a limited income i LOVED these...im not planning on buying any new ones...but i also have no problem with them either
Please check my inventory before my photobucket!!! It's more up to date!!!

I think the glossy cards are a waste of time just like the anniversary ones - but who can argue at a buck a pack.

I love O-Pee-Chee. Yeah there may be 5 different parallels of the base, but they are so uncommon it's near impossible (though a few have done it) to complete a rainbow. But I guess you can say 5 parallels aren't bad.

Upper Deck is alright I guess too. I just never liked their card designs.

I think maybe you guys are missing my point. I know that Score is an entry level set. I know that "for the price" it is a good deal.

My issue dealt specifically with the lack of imagination (or confusion) regarding the 20th anniversay parallel. It would make more sense if the regular base card had a new design and the Anniversary Parallel featured the retro design like OPC or UD (perhaps they don't want to be labeld as copying). But because both the base and parallel both feature the same design I'm left to ask, "What makes the anniversary parallel special". The only answer is foil printing. Oooooh! foil!

    That is all.

I agree with this. I don't like the Score base from 90/91 yet that is the design that is used instead of the better Score base design from the late 90s. Then to use the design from 90/91 and have a parallel with 20th Anniversary Parallel in foil stamped on it is lame.

The Hot Rookies look really good for low end rookies along with the Net Cam and SnoGlobe insert sets. Love the fact that you can pull an auto from the product as well for the price.

Like the OPC Retro and Retro Rainbow parallels but hate the Metal and Metal X as they are extremely hard to tell apart.

Would like Score to have Artist Proof parallels like they had before.

I like score, I think it's great, I'll never buy victory again

the 20th, they could've had a different design, like a vintage look or something? i don't know...

the 20th stamp is lame, I agree

but again, the price of them, and the rookies and inserts and with the rare auto a possibility...

    i can't complain

What they could have done was have a modern base design and then use the 90/91 as a parallel like what Upper Deck did with Series 1 this year in having a retro base parallel to the regular modern base set.
