Jeff Carter: Flyer For Life
http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=341029
The Philadelphia Flyers continue to lock up key pieces of their organization as forward Jeff Carter has agreed to terms on a new 11-year, $58 million contract extension.
The cap hit for Carter's new contract will be a reasonable $5.27 million starting next season. He was scheduled to become a restricted free agent on July 1st as he is in the final year of his deal that will see him earn $5.5 million this season.
Absolutely incredible signing for the Flyers. There have been rumours about trading Carter for a couple years now, and this should pretty much kill those rumours. Great cap hit, too.
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

Ugh, I hate these long contracts where he goes from making 7 mil to 2 mil in like a 3 year span.

I was worried his cap hit was going to be bigger than this years, but wow, good job Homer.

All these long contracts are ment to keep cap hits as low as possible. This is probably the BEST long term contract that any team has done.

Long-term contracts are a potential double-edge sword still since you gotta hope there are no major injuries that greatly affect his career. Does Rick DiPietro ring a bell? The Flyers better hope he does not get any of the injury problems like Simon Gagne has or the team is on the hook... One concussion can change the outlook...
There probably will not be any cap adjustment since he will be only 36 when the contract officially ends. This is unlike what happened with Kovalchuk's contract where it ends when he is 40+ years old.
I have a feeling that the NHL front office will want to make further adjustments to long-term contracts in the next CBA.
Carter will the fourth contract currently that the Flyers have that will last at least another five years.
