Lightning doesn't strike twice...
Last night when I was online, I saw that there was a card show this weekend at a Mall about a mile from my home but since i'm still out of commission, I thought i'd see if Jane could make it 2 weekends in a row with some great deals for me.
So, I gave her a handful of cards (about 10 in all) and asked her to stop by the show and see if she could find something for me. There was only 1 really nice card in the group, a Topps Chrome Ben Roethlisberger RC that I told her to make sure she got a decent Ben in return for. The Chrome I gave her was 1 of 3 from my collection so as long as I got another Ben for it that I didn't have, it would work out for me. I asked her to write down what she got and what she traded for them.
Here's what she came back with...
Andy Hall - 04 Bowman's Best RC auto
-- Traded: 2 wrestling event used cards
Terrell Davis - 95 SP RC Graded PSA 9
-- Traded: Kyle Korver UD Legends auto, Korver Triple Dimensions RC, Jim Thome UD Headliners GU, Billy Wagner Topps Cracker Jack GU
Eli/Rivers/Ben - 04 Fleer Tradition Blue parallel and Carlos Francis - 04 Bowman's best RC auto
-- Traded: Larry Fitzgerald Finest Refractor, Eli Manning UD RC, and J.P. Losman Topps Chrome RC
Eli/Rivers/Ben - 04 Fleer Tradition RC Graded BCCG 10
-- Traded: Get ready for this, Ben Roethlisberger Topps Chrome RC and Jeff Smoker 04 SP Authentic Scripts for Success.
I saw the card and I was happy, but wished it could have been any other grading service besides BCCG. Not quite sure why, but their grades always book horrible since their 10 is mint. Then when I saw what she traded for it, I got mad because I know the dealer just straight up took advantage of her. I mean, $70 bv for a $25 graded card is just wrong. I'm tempted to take it out of the slab and either send it to another grading company or just wait until C.A. Authentics gets off the ground and grade it myself. I mean, it's not Pristine, but it's at least Gem Mint.
So i've come to the following conclusion for when I send my wife out for cards...
Yard Sales for singles - Yes
Card shows - No

If I ever got the urge to send my wife out for cards, I'd hope I'd sleep off the keg I just drank and reconsider in the morning.
