Thanks for all the advice guys - it's very much appreciated.

I'll get in touch with my insurance agent in the next couple of days, and I've also realized that I need to start getting organized with pics and lists.

Yep! Me too! Need to do the same and get organized with pictures, lists, high Beckett value, etc.

General house insurance include 1000$ insurance for collectibles.

No insurance will count a list, a bucket & BV for insuring. You'll need to hire a specialist to evaluate your pc.

If you want an advice, and you have a priceless card, something that really need protection, there is safe rental in your banks.

I already checked for insurance, prices are excessivly high. The best way i found, is to send some at others house/place, to split the value (w/1000$ insured value in any insurance!), mothers, parents in law, job, etc...

I tried to insure my pc a few years ago and was told.that to to the volatility of sports cards and the need for condition for value they would not insure me over the 1000 in my home policy (so i dropped that just renting ) there only other suggestion was to go to lords of london and they may insure sports cards

My collection, PC/traders/everything else is probably only worth about $1000-$1500 so I suppose my homeowners insurance would be fine. With that said, I've thought about looking into this further as my wife has some collectibles (mostly Disney stuff) that can probably rival that, but would still only fall under the $1000 and I can see an insurance company putting it all under the "collectibles" umbrella. I think I'll be looking further into this now.

Just 1 card of mine would cover the $1000 limit for covering collectibles. Definitely need a safe or something.

Lots of misinformation in this thread in terms of insurance.

I keep most of my cards in my home safe. And centrehice, I do live in Canada and know many people with home safes. You can pick one up that is fire, water and theft proof for a few hundred dollars. Mine is bolted 6 inches into my concrete basement floor. It ain't going anywhere.

In addition to my safe, I have a rider on my home insurance. I am covered for up to $250K for my cards alone. When I first added this policy, I needed to send a list of cards to the insurance company and values of those cards. I send them annual updates. Values were based on my personal valuation of the cards. They only wanted cards on the list with values of at least $300. I pay around $800 per year for this insurance.

I have both the safe and the insurance because I don't always keep all my cards in my safe. I like to be protected.

My advice, at a minimum go buy a safe. Once you have over say $50K in cards, approach your insurance company to see what they can offer you for additional protection.

Anyone who says that you need thrid party valuation in order to get insurance is wrong. And anyone who thinks a home safe is inappropriate is out to lunch, IMO.
