THN.com Blog: Explaining the potential Sabres sale
BY: Ken Campbell
The fact that the Buffalo Sabres are throwing cold water on a THN.com report that billionaire Terrence Pegula has signed a letter of intent to purchase the Buffalo Sabres for $150 million could mean a number of things.
Most likely, it means the $150 million figure is not exact, but make no mistake, Pegula wants the Sabres and the purchase price will be in that range, perhaps even lower than $150 million. Does it mean he will definitely buy the team? No, he has simply signed an intention to purchase, which means he still has an out, but the team cannot be sold to anyone else

Here is the latest, from what I have read:
- $150 Million figure relatively accurate for Golisano's majority interest. Keep in mind that Larry Quinn and Dan Dipofi have a minority share of the team. My understanding is the Pegula is wants 100% control. Thus, the price tag is in the $170-$180 Million range.
- This deal would include not only the Sabres, but the Buffalo Bandits of the National Lacrosse League.
- There is no letter that has been signed, yet! This could come in the next several weeks and to be done after Pegula meets with the BOG.
- Pegula is the only party in discussions with Golisano.
- There was a report in the Buffalo News stating Pegula would be interested in buying the Buffalo Bills. The only issue is the NFL does not allow it's owners to be owners in other leagues. Not sure if this would be allowed since both teams would be in Buffalo.
- Any changes to the Hockey Ops would not be done until the completion of the season.
Again, take this for what its worth... alot of speculation at this point. But all signs point to the Sabres having their 4th owner since 1995.
