I will say that they should not be true rookie cards but I would list them as rookie cards. The Cup from last year did not have any true rookie cards in it but they are getting treated that way.

I think at the prices they are selling for people will buy and sell them as if they ARE RC's, so I would list them as such until proven or said otherwise.
Just my 2 cents.

I don't have a beckett on me here at work, but are last year's victory cards inserted into ud series 2 considered true rcs? They were sort of an insert set.

back in the olden days (circa 1986 for me
) iirc rookie cards were considered the first card release by the licensed companies that released them. I.e if Donruss released a card in 85 and topps in 86 both were RC but everyone wanted the 85 card.
Traded states made a bit more tricky but 84 traded was Roger Clemens first RC and 85 was not considered.
So I would argue that any card released by that set is the a true rookie card.
I would also argue since that Ice was subsumed by BD you have any interesting question
Since it's now one set and the black diamond is the set then the ice is not by definition a true rookie card as the BD card that defines the actual set.
The value has to do with scarcity/demand.
Ice is included but ina very limited manner so if you get lucky and hit a limited # ice rookie like a hall /99 you can get top dollar because you get what 3 ice cards in a box of BD?

they are definitely true rookies. while it is true Ice is not being released as a stand alone product this year, the Ice set itself is seperate and distinct from the Black Diamond set. Ice has its own base set and the rookies are numbered as part of the base set just like they have been every year before. find any Ice card and show me where it's marked Black Diamond indicating it as an insert or subset.
furthermore, if the Crosby McDonalds card is arguably a rookie card when they were only available in Canada, then these (available everywhere) would certainly fit the bill.
Cup from last year are true rookie cards. it's an 09-10 release with 09-10 rookies.Last edited by SkyFire47; 12-07-2010 at 11:44 PM.
