    Thumbs down Frustrating panini

Soooo I grew up collecting UD/Topps cards througout the 90's and now have to deal with Panini "buisness". Is anyone else frustrated by being "forced" into this. I guess I'll holdout for now...

I went through what you are going threw now last year, when Panini got the license. After much frustration I have come to realize Panini isnt so bad.

They products arent as 'fun' as Topps Chrome but they still make some pretty sick sets with nice Patches. The sticker Auto thing bugs me, but almost all Topps sets were sticker Autos anyway.

It may seem hard to adjust but all in all not much has changed.

I still find as much joy in opening a box and pulling a sick Rc AUTO Patch from one of my fav players, whether its Panini or UD or Topps!

I was very frustrated at first, but now it has just grown into apathy. I don't fine myself really "wanting" or chasing anything Panini makes. Most of their stuff are crappy, but they have done some nice sets/products as well. I don't really like all the parallels they have, how they release so many patches on low end products, and their design in general.

Luckily we live in the internet age, so if you don't like Panini, just don't buy their stuff and get older UD/Topps stuff from ebay or online dealers. I understand the frustration though if you want to get cards of the rookies and only have panini to choose from.

Only Kobe on-card auto and National Treasures RC Patch Auto are the things that acceptbale for me. Wait, I did have Pippen Manufature Patch because I can't find Ultimate or Autographics at a decent price. I did have a couple of Taj Gibson and James Johnson RC Auto since I can't get them in other sets.

If I have a choice, I will try to stay away from Panini too. UD Product seems to be more expensive and become rarer. Old UD boxes have expired redemption too. That's bad.

Well no one can really force any of us to participate in a hobby, that's really a choice. Add to that UD is still making products so there's the option to dump all of your money, if you choose, on Ultimate, GOTG or SP Authentic. Not to mention the tons of older products out there. Any of which your (our) dollars would benefit the hobby. I know change is frustrating, but I guess what I'm saying is no one's forcing it on you.

I must confess I never understood all this animosity towards Panini. They may not be better than UD/Topps but they´re not worst either, in my opinion.

It seems to me that just the fact that there is a difference in what everyone is used to in UD and Topps and their sets/hits/desgins/etc is what is bugging everyone. I personally started collecting earlier in 2010, so I don't know and I'm not used to the makeup of UD/Topps and their sets, and I think if there was all of a sudden a change back UD/Topps from Panini I wouldn't like it either, just because I "grew up" (as a collector this past year) with Panini and change is hard to get used to when it comes to hobby of collecting.

I'm sure if everyone had started out with Panini, as I did, they wouldn't mind it. But changing the products, the designs, the hits, the EVERYTHING that you're used to would be pretty annoying.

I don't know why everyone has to get so bent out of shape with the "new kid" on the block. Sure some of their products are unimaginative, but isn't that something that they can fix over time? I remember being disappointed in some of the topps and upper deck products in the past. Give them some time. Once they hear the people who collect, they'll fix their stuff.
Not to mention, I'll agree that they have some really really nice patches coming out of their products that you'd have to search for long and hard in upper deck products.
    Just give it some time.

When they get rid of the stickers, then I would buy their products

From about saaaay 03-04, stickers have been used to a large extent. Remember Standing O? Bowman? Finest? SPx with the cuts and stickers When they started to put them on the Chrome products it's been the norm since. That being said, it would be interesting to see if they offer more on-card/year than UD or Topps.

But I do agree that seeing the products that you used to anticipate just go away could add to the frustration of change.
