Moving to a 30 Day Archive

Of course, this is open to discussion!

I'm going to move most of the threads to a 30 day archive. Meaning, if a thread hasn't been replied to within 30 days it will be moved to an archive. Mostly this will effect trades, sales, etc. I know that many people maintain a trade list, so what we can do is allow members to request something be pulled out and marked as a trade list. We'll implement a "tradlist" prefix and mark these except from future moves.

Over the long-term, all archives will still be accessible and likely moved to their specific sport area archives. In the short-term, the "mass public forum" will be sorted only if it has had a post within the past 30 days. The rest will remain in a bulk archive until the staff can get to it, likely after Christmas.

As always, post your feedback and feel free to search for your tradelists and post a reply here with a link. I'll look at adding a "prefix" to it.

Outside of sticky threads, trade lists and trade threads, what other threads are important to you and should not be moved to archives?

    Let the discussion begin!

A lot of the threads in the Autograph Central forum should not be archived in 30 days. People log their successes (TTM, IP, etc) in threads. Just because they haven't gotten an autograph in 30 days doesn't mean their thread should be archived.
And a lot of the autograph info (IP, addresses, etc) in threads is still relevent & useful, even though the thread hasn't been replied to in a while.
    My $0.02.

I think this is fine, as long as most of the posts do return at some point in time.

I'll second this, but am in no way opposed to the archival of old threads.

I think this is a bad idea in the sports chat type forums... There are a lot of predictions threads and stuff like that is is fun to rehash after half the year or whatever.

If you could make it a 60 or 90 day archive it obviously would be better but I don't know if that is possible for you guys.

Also sections like the super collector, team collecting, player collecting, set building, etc shouldn't be moved at all but you probably already know that.

    Hey Mike,

We started doing this when I was still on the hockey staff. If I recall, we did this on a 60-90 basis (30 days is too short). I would say less than 1 percent of the threads were impacted by doing this. Anyone that was using the threads for there tradelist, contacted use and we moved the thread out of the archives. I think I did this 3-4 times max.

I think this should also be limited to Trading, Buy/sell, show and tell forums

Maybe 180 days for Set building

Also, is it possible to create a forum specifically for posting tradelists?

    Scott
