THN.com Top 10: Calder Trophy candidates
BY: John Grigg
When the NHL hands out its hardware in June it will have been seven seasons since Barret Jackman won the Calder Trophy. Never known as an offensive dynamo, Jackman racked up 190 PIM and a plus-23 rating in a shutdown role for St. Louis, the latter stat being tops on the team.
Three forwards, one defenseman and two goalies have won the award since and one guy from each position is in the running again. But if things continue trending the way they are, the Calder will again be in a defender’s hands.
This is THN.com’s Top 10 Calder candidates:
10. John Carlson, D, Washington

It's funny, I was just touting Shattenkirk on here the other day and people were blowing me off.

Holden, why?
Hype doesn't equal performance.
Subban is a good young player who seems to have a nice future ahead of him but that doesn't mean just because his cards sell big or he's popular (see All Star game voting) that he is necessarily worthy of being in the Calder talk.

I'm not saying that just because he has high sales he should be in the top ten but except for his last few games from what I have seen he has been both exciting and a treat to watch. Yes hes not dominating the league by any means and he's not the most humble but he's a very solid player for his age and should be for years to come.

But being solid for a "few games" after being benched for 4 or 5 doesn't bode well for voting. He is going to have to play really well the rest of the way, with no more bad press to get the award. I'm saying, as of now, no, he doesn't deserve to be in the top 10.
Here's my top 10, not in any particular order, just the 10 I think deserve to be in consideration as of now:
Bobrovsky
Ennis
Fowler
Couture
Skinner
Hall
Eberle
Shattenkirk
Stepan
Corey Crawford
Honorable Mention to Seguin, Carlson, Burmistrov and Subban
