What Are Your Feeling On Stickers vs Cards?

I have taken in some Panini and Bashan Super Stickers in trade, and in lots over the years.

It wasn't until 7 months ago that once Panini announced that they had entered the fray into cards, did people start dragging out their old ( and I might ad, almost worthless) Panini stickers from the 90's.

What are your feeling about Hockey Stickers in general, or Pogs, or any other odd items.

I am a Card Guy and have been one since 1959, I have little use or need of stickers. The only other thing I collect are the Vintage Shirriff Pudding Hockey Discs. They are simply marvelous, and truly hold their value.

Now Panini is finally really Short Printing Stickers. Are they flying off the Trade Map? I ask because I really don't know. I do know that they can be reproduced at a fraction of the cost of cards. Will they find a niche? Will they finally be embraced like cards are?

Opinions very much welcomed. I'm still on the fence over this issue because most of the stickers produced in the 90's aren't worth the paper they are printed on and are hard to move and only taken by hardcore collectors that want everything.

As other things in the Hobby, is this just a marketing scheme to get into our wallets further? I applaud Panini for providing competition to UD. I'm glad somebody had the cojones to take them to task, but I'm not certain that stickers are the answer.... How about you?

Oops. Can somebody please move this to the Hockey Card Talk Section. I thought I was still in there and didn't realise that I was in the Trade Area.... apologies.....I'll get my coat

There's three parts to my answers.

    1. As a product, I think they're a great idea. They're designed for kids, they're fun.... and they're yet another thing that can help grow this hobby from the ground up. I think shortprinting them is a horrible idea..... becuase it's going to mean there are kids out there that can't fill the last couple of spots in their sticker book.

    2. As main focus for my collection, I have no interest. Not going to buy packs, boxes, albums, etc.

    3. The exception to #2 is..... for players I collect, I will buy the singles. Bill Ranford, for example, I own at least one copy of every OPC, Panini, and Bashan sticker he was featured on.

My feelings apply the same to Panini Game cards, Topps Attack, Pogs, or whatever else you can name.

    I don't mind them for 2 reasons;

They give an interesting chase for a player PC.

Also at $1 for 7 kids eat them up! And the best part they don't have to worry about creases, if they want they can cover notebooks with them. Fun for kids not so much the older crowd.

Pretty much the same for me. I collect all habs sticker and have many fro trade in certains year like the nice flashing gretzky. I am sure these will find a home some day. Often I buy them on ebay to get my player but with the new inventory I will enter them all along with my odd balls. I bought many sets, like a bacth of mcdo set or Jello spoon just to get my patrick roy.

Currently I am making a collecting room and will post a video shorthly. With the inventory and the new room and how eeverything will be clasiffied, I will be able to list all my cards so member can search their players and find my odd ball. This is how I see this will finally see a tradable items down the road, the SCF OPG database will list them, member will want them and will find them in inventories from all members. I am sure a felix Potvin collectors would love to see all odd ball I may have along with some stickers.

So there is a nice with team and player collectors. Once I amost traded a toronto team set but the person back out. The SCF Inventory already made me a nice deal for base card of Doughty that I would never have traded if they were not listed in SCF inventory.

So I see a bit of light to be able to trade for them if mor member start using the inventory.

I was a big stickers collector in the 80's. That gave me something to do when my OPC card set have been completed.

Now, I trade for Nordiques stickers I need from time to time. Never had buy some on eBay and never will. No sticker worth 1 $ + shipping...

I am really looking forward, tough, to the moment my future son (hope it will be sooner than later) will show interest in stickers. This will be a great hobby to share together. And I hope that collecting stickers will give him the passion to collect hockey cards.
    I collect the following:
    - Vintage (Stars and RC)
    - 2010-11 ITG Decades (Auto, GU, bases)
    - Stars from the 1980s (in modern sets)
    - Montreal Canadians Legends (bases, inserts, parallels, #, RC, Auto, GU)
    - Montreal Canadiens actual players (inserts, parallels, #, RC, Auto, GU)

Got some stickers ranging from 1981 to last year, not all year but I also bought a case of 1995 panini hockey so I have a lot of those with many mint album as well that came with the case. Some 2000 + sticker from that year. Maybe some of us can do some trading. I know I have some entered in my SCF Inventory

This sticker is one of the coolest I have:
