Flames GM Sutter Steps Down
http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=347102
A shakeup in Calgary is underway as the Flames announced Tuesday that Executive Vice-President and general manager Darryl Sutter is stepping down effective immediately.
Jay Feaster has been appointed Acting General Manager and will assume full and complete responsibilities for day-to-day hockey operations.
"Darryl has performed valuable service to the Calgary Flames organization for 8 years," said Flames President & CEO Ken King in a statement. "He was the leader that ignited a renaissance of Flames hockey, moving us from a non-playoff team to an organization that was viewed as a respected and popular contender each year. We thank Darryl for his leadership and his important contributions to re-establishing the Calgary Flames as a model franchise. As we enter the next phase of our growth in the NHL, we are restructuring our leadership and processes. We are pleased that Darryl has agreed to assist in an orderly transition and will provide his valuable guidance in the process. He remains dedicated to the success of the team he worked so hard to build".
The Flames are struggling along with a 16-18-3 record and sit 14th in the Western Conference entering play on Tuesday.
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

Owners have had enough of the stupidity. Sutter is functionally illiterate. Apparently he cannot read very well, and certainly cannot speak publicly. Lol
The Houdini Family. One Sutter could play Hockey, another had a few good shifts and the other 3 should have had to pay for gas for the Bus they should have been on instead of playing in the NHL.

Its about time. Unfortunately this may spell the end of Iginla or Kipper, or both at the trade deadline but that may be the best route for the franchise at this point.

It really is though (the best route).
This team is going nowhere.
Most of the 'major' pieces in Calgary are declining assets (Iginla, Kipper, Regher, etc).
There is next to nothing in cupboard.
I'm not sure that the Flames are actually a whole lot better off than the Maple Leafs right now, as far as "quality of hockey team" or "organizational depth" are concerned.
The one thing the Flames do have though, is tradable assets. Dump these guys for the best deals possible, and if Calgary plays their cards right.... they could be back to having a solid team in 3 or 4 years.
