    Help for novice

I am a novice at this stuff, so If I sound like a dope, excuse me. I have a harcover book that the Celtics gave to each season ticket holder in the team's 50th year. It seems the special edition of the book is rare enough, but it is also sined by Larry Bird specifically for this run of books. Does anyone have any idea what something like that is worth before my wife tries to sell it in a yard sale? If this is not the forum for this, forgive me.

well is it certified? like is there somewhere that says it is a real auto and verified by the team? if so that may be a valuable peice of history and someone here would probably be interested... if it is not certified i would say you could maybe get 15-20 dollars for it but because no one knows if it is real people would be afraid to pay very much on it

No, it was just mailed out, I believe. I think the only thing that would verify it , is that the Celtics only printed x number of these books, with a specific page devoted to the signing. That is to say, it is not on the title page, there is actually a page that says this is Larry Bird's signature for season ticket holders.

i just checked out ebay and unverified autos from bird are selling for around 20 bucks

    this one is 10
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...194658833&rd=1

    this one is 23
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...194951001&rd=1

i would say with the book included maybe 30-35 would be a reasonable price unless it is verified then it could go for a lot more

Well, thanks anyway. It sucks because I know it's real, but that doesn't help anyone else out! Anyway, what would a good verification be?

there is a company called PSA/DNA that would verify it.. they are the most trusted company for this type stuff

just go to www.psadna.com for more information about it... looks like it would be 20 dollars to get it authenticated

It would cost more to verify it than it's worth, unfortunately. Some auto's you just *know* are real from looking at them (not a photocopy, right?). How many copies of this book were printed? It would have to be in the thousands if all the season ticket holders got one. Was Bird the only signer? If it's a real auto, I doubt Bird would sign thousands (maybe tens-of-thousands) of copies. Can you put up a scan of the auto?

Don't sell it in a yard sale. lol

Wow, only 20$ thats not so bad. With shipping and everything probably around $40? Might be worth the effort.

I do not have a scanner now. I could try to take a picture of it. What it is, is a page of nice paper, almost see-through, but heavy. There is a gray full
page Celtics logo in the back ground. It says "The Boston Celtics are pleased to present this Limited Edition to" and there is no name there. Then below that it says "This copy of THE BOSTON CELTICS: FIFTY YEARS has been published exclusively for our 1996-97 season ticket holders and personally signed by Larry Bird" Then below that is a reasonably well-sized signature from Bird. There are spots where the pen did not hit the paper on the tail of the "Y" and "D" , the top of the "B" and the cross over line in the "L". I don't know how many season ticket holders there were that year, but they ween't too hot and hadn'r been for quite some time. This probably, of course, does not authenticate it.
