Hey hockeyguy5464,
SCF gets a little taking used to. I'm going to use the Hockey boards as an example.
Generally what you want to do is look through the hockey trade forum:
https://www.sportscardforum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=89
Check the posts about what people want and what people are offering. There are many trade lists posted in the forums. Once you find something where you think you can make a deal, send someone a PM.
To send a PM, click on a person's username and a drop down menu will appear. You can choose "send a private message to...." and you'll be directed to an e-mail style form which you can use to send someone a message.
Its customary to send a PM BEFORE using the trade manager to send trades. SEnt a couple of PMs back and form to discuss if the trade is agreed to by both sides. Some people like to negotiate, some don't. You just have to try a few people and you'll see.
Once a trade has been agreed to over PM, you can post it in the "Trade Manager"
https://www.sportscardforum.com/trade.php?do=list
There's a tutorial on how to do that here (User CP is now "My Details"):
https://www.sportscardforum.com/showthread.php?t=412929
Basically, you click on "Post a trade" on the left hand side and follow the prompts. Be as detailed as you can and then submit. The other person will have a chance to review the trade and then confirm it. Once confirmed, you mail and you've just got your first trade under your belt!
If you have any questions, drop me a line and I can help.
AS for trade lists. I keep mine in my inventory manager:
https://www.sportscardforum.com/scf/inventory/reoddai
You have one too that you can make. At the top of the screen, there should be a button that says "inventory manager". Just click on it. Its fairly new, but there are also guides to help you out
https://www.sportscardforum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=394
Some people just post their trade and wantlists in a thread. Others have their own website.
Hope this helps. Send me a Pm if you want anything clarified!
Cheers,
reoddai

Welcome to SCF! Like anything new, it just takes a bit of getting used to, but once you get the hang of it, it's very simple. This is an excellent site for trading cards and talking about the hobby. We have many active members throughout the boards including the hockey area. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
