    NEW CPL QUESTIONS REG. Selling/Trading

    Hi

New to the forum and had a couple of questions regarding shipping cards after trading/selling them on here and ebay.

Just wondering the best way to ship single or a couple of cards. After reading a bit it seems the best way is to use a top loader with a team bag and put it into a bubble mailer. Is using a small piece cardboard and tape instead a team bag is it frowned upon?

Also, i live in Canada and was wondering the best shipping method for Canada and the US? I dont want the buyer to get screwed with custom/brokerage fees so with what service (letter/parcel,expediate/standard?), what company and should i send it and what should i put on the customs form? I know to avoid UPS.

If its a expensive high end card wont i get screwed with insurance coverage if i dont fill out the customs form legit and the card get lost.

    THANKS ANY HELP MUCH APPRECIATED!!

-This is the best and most preferred way.

-Acceptable to me, but maybe not to others. If using tape try to get something that won't leave a residue on the toploader (i.e. masking tape).

-In almost every case Canada Post/USPS are the best way to go. Private courrier services cost more for both parties and unless you need the card immediately, and I don't know why you would, it's overkill. You'll have to come up with your own standards, but for me <$100 gets regular mail and >$100 gets registered.

If its a expensive high end card wont i get screwed with insurance coverage if i dont fill out the customs form legit and the card get lost.

-From what I was told by my local PO employee paper products (hockey cards) do not require a customs form, but that rule seems to vary from place to place. Also remember Xpresspost (Canada) insurance is only good for documents (so I'm told) and not goods.

Anything else feel free to ask. Welcome aboard!

    Phoenix pretty much nailed it.

If you're out of team bags, the decoy cards are an acceptable substitute. Put one on each side (hockey card sandwich) and a small piece of tape on all four sides to hold it in place. Emphasis on the small piece of tape, as you don't want it to have to be an excavation to liberate the card.

Bubble mailer is always the best way to go. Be sure to pack things in slim - if it's too thick to fit through the wide slot it goes as a parcel. So if you're shipping 6 or more cards, divide it up into two team bags and lay them side by side.

Canada Post is always the best way to go. It'll run you $1.22 for standard shipping. I generally only use XpressPost on deals over $100 - I don't know if you plan on doing any epic deals with 5 different Cup RCs /99, but if you do definitely get insurance. If they lose a $500 card and you only insure up to $100 that's a painful loss.

Great to see people asking these types of questions! Enjoy your time here at SCF!
