Restarting My Collecting
Hi all, I want to start collecting again, and I was wondering, without that much of a budget for cards, what is the best way to restart my collecting?
Should I buy a few packs of very high end cards, or should I buy a box or two of low end?

Depends who you're gonna collect. If you have a lower end PC player or team, then I think you can go with lower end boxes to get lots of tradebait. But if you're gonna go after Crosby (or someone similar) then you've gotta have higher end cards for trading. HOWEVER, you can also use that money to buy some cards (ebay) because it can be a great way to get a head start on the cheap.

I used to open boxes with the plan to trade up for Wings goodies. I end up getting half the value of what I'd spend, and get stuck with a lot of cards I can't trade off. I just buy Zetty items now. Its getting more leery with the patch forgers on ebay as well.

well it all depends how much of a gamble you are willing to take...if ur budget is say, $90 or so, you can buy a pack of UD Ulitmate...if that is too much you can always buy lower end boxes
also, you can buy older boxes...say for instance buy boxes from you fav. players rookie year or something...this way its cheaper, and you still can get a nice pull, even if its not worth that much cashPlease check my inventory before my photobucket!!! It's more up to date!!!

I would just buy singles you like off the forums and ebay and build your collection that way, and then maybe a box of a product that looks appealing to you and trade away or sell the cards you don't want to keep. You can check out box breaks and see which product suits you best, but realize that your going to get burned busting wax a good portion of the time (ie. your not making even close to your money back you invested). That said I don't know a lot of poeple who doesn't like busting packs or boxes, its one of the best parts of the hobby. Super fun, but not very profitable. If you want to build a set then go out and invest in some packs or a box or two and you can get a pretty good head start that way.

Start small...I'm still in my first year of collecting and I started by buying the cheapest cards I could find of my favorite players or super star players at the LCS. Then I bought a box of 1990 Score for $10; I pulled a Martin Brodeur RC worth...well...can't list the BV on here...but more than the entire box of cards! lol
My collection has grown from there and I've now completed the entire checklist (big whoop for most major collectors, but I'm having fun) of 2010-2011 Victory hockey and have also bought boxes of Score and UD Series 1. It's a really fun hobby, but my advice to you is to not let it control your wallet. Have fun and just enjoy the hobby!

Set your mind on one card that you really like the design of and suits you and go after it. Packs are the fuel of fools.
