Please Explain Topps / OPC Factory Set?

I'm trying to collect every Rick Nash rookie card and I only have about 4 or 5 to go. I need someone to explain "Factory Set" to me.

For both of his OPC and Topps cards Beckett lists two different cards with one being "Factory Set" under each brand.

Is the only difference the gold lettering and highlight used versus silver on the standard card?

    Thanks!

I believe Nash's RC was part of a redemption set. If you got a redemption card you could send it in for 10 rookie cards. Unlike today's one for one redemptions, TOPPS/OPC gave you all ten cards for one redemption. Zetterberg's RC was also included in this pack.

Perhaps, those 10 RCs are included in the factory set?

I can't tell you about the foiling because I haven't seen the factory set cards, but my Nash RC from the redemption set has silver foil.

In the old days 1968-1989 in Topps and OPC a factory set contained every card in the issue.

It did not contain Insert Stickers however, Booklets, Puck cards, etc.

In the specific Issue you are talking about the 2002-03 Set of Topps and OPC had 330 cards in the set, plus an additional 10 Rookie Card Set.

If you purchased a set, you would only have gotten the 330 regular cards, not the Rookies, they were an Update set.

Now the 10 set Rookie Update Set Cards were available by redemption. They were found in Topps/OPC Packs and in Topps Chrome only with the letter "U" for update. The card was filled out and the Redemption sent in for the 10 RC's by mail.

    Hope that explains it.

That makes sense! So do you know how to tell them apart from the standard? When comparing the two topps cards I have, the one that is supposedly from the "factory set" has gold lettering.

Yes, that is correct. The factory sets had the reflective like gold lettering and the regular sets available through redemption had just the standard silver lettering. The factory set versions are harder to come by.
