Leafs' Wilson May Have Violated Salary Cap With Cash Incentive
http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=349217
Ron Wilson's landmark 600th win against his former team may leave a bitter taste in his mouth.
According to a report in the Toronto Star, the Maple Leafs head coach posted an undisclosed amount of cash in the locker room prior to Tuesday's contest as extra incentive for his team to beat the Sharks.
It was unclear, however, whether Wilson's gift was a violation of the collective bargaining agreement.
"If it is a violation, we will remedy it with the league," GM Brian Burke told the Star. "We'll take the money back, do whatever the league tells us to do. We have not heard anything from the National Hockey League."
Traditionally, players will post cash to a new teammate to score the winning goal when he meets his former team.
The Maple Leafs gave Wilson his benchmark victory by beating the Sharks 4-2, a game that featured a four-goal third-period rally.
Really? Really?
That would be very lame of the League to fine him or find this a salary cap contravention - you hear stories about this happening all the time, and they're no different than this reported one.
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

I can see it now:
"I'll give a hundred bucks of my own money to which ever one of my guys scores the winning goal against the punks from San Jose".
If they actually try to do something about this, lame is right.

The collective bargaining agreement is in place for a reason. If you are participating in any form being it Owner, Scout, Trainer, Physical Therapist or Coach, you should inform yourself as to the rules that govern what you are allowed to offer players, whom are not your colleagues, but who are contracted employees based on their NHLPA Union agreement with all other NHL Teams, and the National Hockey League.
If it is determined that Wilson's behaviour is not in the good nature or spirit of the collective bargaining agreement, then he can be fined, suspended, suspended and fined, or released from his obligation as coach, depending on how the management of his own team views his behaviour. The team can also go through a myriad of fines separate from that of the coach.
That's the way it is. It's labour and you have to treat it carefully.

Your right.... taking the team out to an irish pub after his 600th win is NOT acceptable.
Big deal. He wanted his team to play well.

it is allowed for players to do so since it is just exchanging money with one another that has already been paid to them, but this is diffferent because it could be considered additional salary or incentives in addition to their regular pay
